Delhi Police said that during the interrogation the suspended AAP councillor revealed that he wanted to teach Hindus a lesson using his political power and money, say agency sources. He had a meeting with Khalid Saifi & Umar Khalid in the office of PFI, where they agreed to fund these riots and statements during anti-CAA protests.

“Khalid Saifi, along with his friend Ishrat Jahan, first started a dharna in Khureji (east Delhi) on the basis of Shaheen Bagh. On February 4, in Abu Fazal Enclave, I met Khalid Saifi for planning the riots,” Hussain told police as per agency sources.

“It was decided to provoke people sitting on the anti-CAA protest. Khalid Saifi said that something big has to be done at the time of American president Donald Trump’s visit so that the government has to bend on knees,” he said.

Sources say that Tahir Hussain also told the police that he was in resentment after the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Supreme Court‘s verdict in favour of Hindus on Ram Mandir and passing of Citizenship Amendment Act by the Modi government. These were the reasons he planned anti-CAA and anti-Hindu riots.

Delhi Police interrogation reveals that Tahir Hussain has also admitted that his task was to collect acid, petrol, diesel and stones on his roof. He had also taken his gun from the police station for use in the violence. He did all this on the advice of Umar Khalid.

On February 24,according to our plan, I have called several people and told them how to throw stones, petrol bombs, and acid bottles from my terrace. I had shifted my family to a safe place. On February 24, 2020, at about 1:30 pm, we started throwing stones,” Tahir Hussain told police.

Imran Tahir also said that he ensured that people of his community ( Muslim Community) were not harmed during the riots. He also pulled out all the CCTV cameras so that the police did not get any evidence or proof about the violence created by him.

According to the charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police, Tahir Hussain is also accused of killing of IB personnel Ankit Sharma whose body was recovered from a drain in Chandbagh on February 26.

Delhi Police had also questioned Umar Khalid on August 1, about his speeches that he delivered before the northeast Delhi riots, and also about his meetings with Tahir Hussain and Khalid Saifi at Shaheen Bagh before the anti-CAA riots.
