Days after BJP MLA Debendra Nath Roy was found hanging in a shop in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur, a similar incident has been reported from East Midnapore on Wednesday. The body of a local BJP worker has been was found hanging from a tree near his house at Kochuri village in East Midnpaore. The victim is identified as Purnachandra Das.
The 44-year-old Purnachandra Das, in-charge of the local booth for BJP, was found hanging from a tree near his house under the Ramnagar assembly seat.
Das’ family said it’s a ‘political murder’ and TMC goons were behind it. According to the victim’s family, the BJP worker was called from his house earlier on Wednesday. His body was later found by neighbours in the nearby area.
Quoting Das’ family, India Today reported that local TMC leaders had been putting pressure on him for the past few days to join their party.
“But he was not willing to do so. Today a meeting was scheduled to be held with local TMC leaders. Later in the evening, he was found hanging. We want the truth to come out,” a member of his family said.
The BJP has alleged that Das has been murdered by the ruling Trinamool Congress as he was an active member of BJP in the area. “He was our booth in-charge in the area. TMC goons killed him and hung him from a tree. The family was being hounded off late. TMC leaders called him from his house this morning and later his body was found. We demand a proper investigation into this,” Anup Chakraborty, a local BJP leader, said.
