ISKCON to take legal action against Shemaroo Ent & Comedian Surleen Kaur for defaming the organisation and Sanatan Dharma

There is a growing trend in India, where Hinduism/Sanatan Dharma and our Rishi-Munis, Deities etc are being constantly abused by a group of people and organizations. They are misusing the tolerant nature of the followers of Sanatan Dharma, says the ISKCON's complaint to Mumbai police.

There is a growing trend in India, where Hinduism/Sanatan Dharma and our Rishi-Munis, Deities etc are being constantly abused by a group of people and organizations. They are misusing the tolerant nature of the followers of Sanatan Dharma, says the ISKCON’s complaint to Mumbai police.

Defaming Hindu saints, demonising Hindutva, subtle shaming of Hindu beliefs and traditions have been the order of the day for most Web series and stand-up comedians. Lack of legal action had emboldened them as they have continued with the practice for long. Now, ISKCON seems to have taken this seriously and has indicated that the organisation will seek to put an end to it.

In the lastest example, one stand-up comedian Surleen Kaur defamed ISKCON and also demeaned Hindu rishi and Munis along with disparging Sanskrit. In a act she was heard saying “Beshak hum sab ISKCON waley hain, par andar sey sub harami Porn waley hain”. In the same act she further says, “Dhanya ho hamarey Rishi-Muni jinhoney thodisi Sanskrit use kar key apney badey badey kand chupayehai….Kamasutra”. The youtube link of her act is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkQ9BV8Jes4&feature=youtu.be

ISKCON has initiated legal action against Shemaroo Entertainment and comedian Surleen Kaur for defaming the organisation and demeaning Sanatan Dharma. The decision was tweeted by Radharamn Das, Vice President & Spokesperson of Kolkata ISKCON.

In its complaint to Mumbai police Commissioner, ISKCON has said that the comedians act was highly objectionable and defamatory and has caused great pain to the followers of Sanatan Dharma, Hindus and ISKCON worldwide devotees. Shemaroo has millions of subscribers and the video shared on many social media platforms has caused irreversible loss to our society, says the complaint.

“There is a growing trend in India, where Hinduism/Sanatan Dharma and our Rishi-Munis, Deities etc are being constantly abused by a group of people and organizations. They are misusing the tolerant nature of the followers of Sanatan Dharma and their abuses and language and volume of abuse has only grown louder day by day. There is a hidden propaganda and conspiracy to defame Sanatan Dharma, our Rishi Munis so that the youths can be easily manipulated. Through app’s like Tik-Tok etc. the focus of the foreign power’s is to destroy the character of the masses so that country can be easily controlled & destroyed”, says the complaint.

ISKCON has requested Mumbai Police to register an F.I.R under relevant sections against Surleen Kaur and Shemaroo Entertainment limited for the act.

Shemaroo has conceded that Surleen Kaur’s video was found derogatory and the same has been taken down with immediate effect. However, ISKCON has said that it will continue with the legal action.

Radharamn Das of ISKCON has said that they will not accept Shemaroo’s apology. “This has become a trend to demean Sanatan Dharma. No more. We will make an example out of this nonsense”, he said.
