FIR filed against Sonia Gandhi for sharing false information on PM Cares fund; Congress fumes

Advocate KV Praveen Kumar from Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district in Karnataka has lodged a complaint against Congress president Sonia Gandhi alleging posting of false information about PM Cares Fund. The lawyer in his complaint has said that the false information was shared by through her party’s official Twitter handle @INCIndia.
The INCIndia handle has alleged that PM Cares was a fraud and the funds were not being used for transport of migrants, or providing financial stimulus. The Tweet to this effect was made on May 11th on its official Twitter handle. The lawyer alleged that this allegation is causing people to distrust the Prime Minister and such words were used with malicious intent.
The complaint further says that such false charges may cause people to distrust the government when such allegations are made on social networking sites. Advocate Praveen has sought prosecution of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, handler of the @INCIndia Twitter account and Congress workers who have supported the false information. The Sagar police have registered an FIR under IPC sections 153, 505 (1) B.

Perturbed by the filing of the FIR against Congress supremo in Karnataka, a delegation of the party leaders led by KPCC president DK Shivakumar met CM Yediyurappa to demand quashing of the FIR. Calling it an attack on freedom of expression, the Congress leaders have said that action should also be taken agains the police inspector who filed the case.
