UP government under Yogi Adityanath has taken an important decision to compensate daily wage earners whose livlihoods have been affected by the restrictions due to COVID19. A high-level committee has been formed to decide the nature of the assistance.
With most sections of the society being shut down or halted till the end of the month in order to stem the spread of Corona Virus, the daily-wage labourers are the hardest hit due to the lull in the activities in the country. To assuage their concerns and to supplement the loss of earnings, the UP government under Yogi Adityanath has taken a important decision to compensate such daily wage earners.
The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting that was held on Tuesday where CM Yogi Adityanath has constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, comprising agriculture and labour ministers, to decide the nature of the assistance to the labourers. The findings of the committee will be submitted to the Chief Minister in a couple of days, say government sources.
Speaking to the media on the initiative of the UP government, a government spokesperson said, “There is a section of poor people who go out for work daily to make a living, but these restrictions could affect their livelihood. In order to ensure that the daily-wage labourers are not affected, a three-member committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the state finance minister.
State power minister Shrikant Sharma spoke to the media and said, “To ensure the livelihood of daily wage earners the UP government is looking at transferring money using the real time gross settlement (RTGS) system directly into their accounts.” The aim of the initiative is to ensure that the workers and their families do not suffer from the restrictions and the loss of livelihood, he said.
