The so called ‘surrender’ drama of suspended and ‘absconding’ AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, charged with murder of Intelligence Bureau personnel Ankit Sharma, fell flat on Thursday, March 5, after a Delhi court dismissed the plea to that effect. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja rejected Hussain’s plea saying that the relief sought by him was outside its jurisdiction. Shortly after the high moral ground was deprived, Hussain was arrested by the Delhi Police team from the court premises.
Earlier, Hussain’s lawyer Mukesh Kalia said the suspended AAP leader has moved the surrender application before the court saying that he was willing to join the investigation and thus would like to surrender. Kalia also made a plea before the court that Hussain was facing life threats and was forced to move a surrender plea before the Rouse Avenue court instead of Karkardooma court. The counsel also said Tahir Hussain was ‘falsely implicated’ in the case.
Delhi violence has seen deaths of at least 42 people including Ankit Sharma (IB) and Ratan Lall (Delhi police). The body of Ankit Sharma was recovered from a drain in Jaffrabad last week.
Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party had suspended Husain after the police got into action against him for instigating violence and for murder of Ankit Sharma, who had multiple injury marks. Ankit Sharma’s father, Ravinder Sharma had accused Tahir Hussain of the murder.
BJP leader Kapil Mishra had also endorsed the views and said “Tahir Hussain can be seen with the masked boys carrying sticks, stones, bullets and petrol bombs”.
