India has called for restraint as the tension between the US and Iran escalates after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani was killed in Iraq by the US. External Affairs Ministry said, the increase in tensions between both nations has alarmed the world and it is vital that the situation does not escalate further.

The ministry said, that peace, stability and security in the region is of utmost importance.

India said, it should be vital that the situation does not escalate further. External Affairs Ministry said, India has consistently advocated restraint and continues to do so.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the world cannot afford another war in the Gulf, following the killing of Iran’s top military commander in US drone strike.

Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General Farhan Haq said, “The Secretary-General has consistently advocated for de-escalation in the Gulf. He is deeply concerned with the recent escalation.”
