Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will face trial in a defamation case which was filed at the Mumbai High Court. The court had issued summons against Rahul Gandhi and Yechury on a private complaint seeking defamation proceedings to be initiated against both of them for wrongly accusing RSS of killing Gauri Lankesh.
Both Rahul and Yechuy pleaded not guilty and will now face trial. The court granted Gandhi and Yechury bail on a surety amount of Rs 15,000 each. Both of them also signed the necessary documents.
In a complaint filed in 2017, Adv Dhrutiman Joshi, a Mumbai based lawyer said that within 24 hours of her death, Rahul Gandhi told reporters that “anybody who speaks against the ideology of the BJP, against the ideology of the RSS, is pressured, beaten, attacked and even killed.” As per his complaint, Yechury too stated that it was the RSS’ ideology and RSS people who killed Gauri Lankesh.
Rahul Gandhi is already facing another defamation case at Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, for blaming the Sangh for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.
