The Uttar Police has dismissed the rumour, making rounds on social media, that local BJP leaders were behind the murder of BJP worker Surendra Singh, a close aide of Smt Smriti Irani MP during her election campaigning in Amethi. The police also said that it would take legal action against those who spread the fake news.

A section of Congress-supporting Malayalam TV channels like Manorama News, news portals like Khabarbar, Times of Assam and doolnews.com , and the mouthpiece of radical Islamic outfit PFI (https://www.thejasnews.com), carried this fake news, falsely quoting the UP Police that local BJP leaders murdered BJP worker Surendra Singh due to inter-party rivalry.

Several workers and office-bearers of the Congress party posted this fake news on Twitter and Facebook. Ruchira Chaturvedi, the national convenor of the Congress, had posted a tweet and claimed, ‘UP police confirms – Surendra Singh, a close aide of Smriti Irani was murdered by BJP workers who were his local rivals and NOT due to some Congress conspiracy, as was being peddled. Shameful on part of BJP to do politics over death of their own karyakarta!’

Shama Mohamed, Congress spokesperson, tweeted that the close aide of Smriti Irani was killed by BJP workers who were his local rivals and not due to Congress conspiracy. She also claimed that the UP police had confirmed the same.

Responding to the fake news, which falsely quoted them, the Uttar Pradesh Police has clarified that the news regarding murder in Amethi is a deliberate distortion of facts. The police have also warned the Congress leaders that they have forwarded the tweets to Amethi police for legal action for spreading rumours.

Following the repeated warnings issued by the UP police, several Congress leaders and workers washed their hands by deleting the tweets. However, referring to a tweet posted by the Chandigargh unit of Congress Sevadal, the police said that deletion of such misleading tweets will not be of any help. “An FIR regarding the same has been lodged by the Amethi police yesterday itself. This will be followed by a threadbare investigation and consequent legal action,” the UP Police tweeted. The police also requested everyone not to misquote them anywhere.

According to the credible media reports, the statement of the UP DGP reads: “We have arrested three suspects. Two suspects are still absconding, and we will nab them soon. On the basis of all evidence, it is very clear that this is a case of local level political rivalry.” In the statement, the DGP did not attribute the murder to the workers of any political party.

Meanwhile, the family members of the slain BJP leader alleged that he was killed for working for BJP and the Congress leaders were behind the murder.

Interestingly, the self-proclaimed ‘fact-checking portals’ keep mum about the fake news about Surendra Singh murder which was deliberately circulated by paid media. With turning a blind eye to the Congress-sponsored smear campaign against BJP, the leftist funded yellow press that masquerading as ‘fact-checking portals’ has exposed their political bias and lack of integrity once again.
