Kerala’s Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena said that the Election Commission has taken cognisance of the complaint against Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor (Thiruvananthapuram) for using posters of his book ‘Why I am a Hindu’ to woo Hindu votes. He said that the Election Commission will take action against Tharoor if he is found guilty. He also warned political parties against using pictures of gods for poll campaign.
The BJP alleged that the book cover has been deliberately used in the poster to woo Hindu voters. The party had lodged a complaint against the poster put up by the Congress which has the cover picture of Tharoor’s books including ‘Why I Am A Hindu’.
“This is a deliberate attempt by the Congress to appeal to a particular community of the society. These posters have been put up ahead of the elections. This is a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Chief Electoral Officer has agreed to look into it this,” Adv S Suresh, district president of the BJP told media.
