Another shocking incident of sexual abuse involving the Church came into light after the Nagaland Police have taken 60-year old pastor into custody for allegedly raping a 10-year old minor girl.

Chandar Kumar Pradhan, a pastor at a Church in Lahorijan of Assam’s KarbiAnglong District, was on the run since October 29 after he invited the minor to his room and raped her. Later, the minor reported the incident to her parents on October 31, after which the parents filed a complaint with the police at Khatkhati outpost. The pastor has been charged with rape under IPC and aggravated sexual assault under the Protection of Children from the Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).

The Police have taken the Pastor into custody along with a 35-year-old man Madhab Rai who recorded the rape and uploaded that on social media platforms. According to the victim, on October 29, the Pastor reportedly invited her at tea garden near his residence and fled after raping her.

According to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Bokajan), Swetank Mishra, “The girl did not say anything to her parents on the day of the sexual assault. She told them on October 31, and then they filed a complaint the same day.”

Mishra informed the media that the Pastor had been fleeing his home and changed his locations several times to avoid arrest. He was finally arrested from a hotel in Nagaland’s Kohima District.

In recent time, many incidents of child abuse, rape and trafficking in Churchs have surfaced. The recent one is of Franco Mulakkal, a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Jalandhar, who was arrested but released on bail later for raping a 44-year old nun several times at Kuruvilangad in Kottayam District.
