Vice President Visits Cellular Jail in Port Blair, Pays Tribute to Veer Savarkar

The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has visited the infamous Cellular Jail in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands on June 5, where valiant freedom fighters were meted out most cruel and inhuman treatment by the British. He also paid tributes to the heroes of the freedom moment.
The Vice President also visited solitary confinement cell of Veer Savarkar at the Cellular Jail and paid tributes to great freedom fighter. The purpose of solitary confinement was to demoralise freedom fighters, keep them in small, solitary cells without any scope to interact with fellow prisoners and local people, he said.
The Vice President was received by the Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral D.K. Joshi and other dignitaries, on his arrival, in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He was also given the Guard-of-Honour jointly by the Army, Navy and Airforce.
