This government has been pathetically slow in weeding out bad loan and fraud cases of the high and mighty and has very little time to get to any close before the 2019 elections. The Modi government needs to fight corruption in the elite classes to give a real message to its voters. In spite of efforts to revamp the banking system, the influential people seem to be getting away with their corrupt
practices.

Need For Decisive Action Period

Regarding the recent PNB scam, irrespective of the when the problem started, the government has to handle two things. Public perception and actual recovery of the loan. It is running out of time on both the fronts. However, the only  silver lining is that the Prime Minister is still the only hope capable of getting us through these trying times.

Minorities’ Appeasement, The Congress Way

AICC president Rahul Gandhi, while addressing an election meeting in Meghalaya, alleged that the BJP tried to bribe the Church so that it could influence voters in its favour. But such a  practice had been initiated long ago by his great-grandfather, Jawaharlal Nehru himself when he introduced the bill in the 1950s in the Parliament for subsidising the Muslims’ Haj pilgrimage to Mecca.  The Supreme Court took courage only recently to direct the government to scale down such subsidies which are in the nature of appeasement of a
particular community for votes.  The Christian Congress Chief Minister, the late  Y.S Rajasekharan Reddy  created  the A.P State Christian Minority  Finance Corporation and through it  started funding  construction  of Churches  ( now enhanced from Rs. 3 to Rs.5 lakh) and  subsidies  (recently enhanced from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000) for Christians to go  to Jerusalem on pilgrimage. It appears that the BJP is trying to compete with the Congress to bribe the minorities.  But that would be totally false and misplaced.

Grave Distortions

Refer “Countering the Historical Fallacies” by Shaan Kashyap in  Organiser dated 28-12018. The Congress and the Marxist version of perverted history has been
discussed in detail in the write-up. I would like to mention only one aspect of distorted history, being taught to our children in schools. Before 1947, during the British rule, I very well remember, that our books contained details of loot, mass slaughter, and cruelty done by Muslim invaders and kings. But, now I have checked up the books of my grand children. The  Muslim invaders and kings, who committed great crimes, are being depicted as very kind and considerate towards the Hindus. Thus new
generation has been, and is being befooled to accept our worst enemies, as our friends. There is praise for imaginary and false ‘Ganga Yamuna’ culture, as if Hindus and Muslims have been
living here since time immemorial. No light is thrown on the fact, that present truncated India has been reduced by Muslims to half of its original size. Ancient Buddhist literature mentions sixteen Maha Janpadas of Aryavarta (ancient name of Bharat), which included Afghanistan (Gandhara) and Central Asia (Kamboja). This false history must be corrected, so that new generation knows the facts of true history. This also shows that British rule was better than the rule of Gandhi, Nehru and  the  Congress, as sins and crimes done by Muslims were correctly mentioned in the text books, that I studied.

Need For
Decisive Action

This is apropos the Article”Stone Pelters on Song, Army in Dock by Brig. (Retd.) Anil Gupta in Organiser (February 11, 2018). The article is well couched and depicts the prevailing scenario in the valley vis-a-vis army operations, stone- pelters, FIR Against Army. Apart from the Kashmir valley, the Pak- sponsored terrorist activities have also gained momentum in the Jammu Region. They are keeping the borders  boiling. We need to be proactive in  dealing with the hostile neighbour and in-house anti-national elements. People want a perceptible paradigm shift from the top leadership in handling the hitherto intractable enemy in the form of hydra-headed terrorism.
— PC SHARMA, Jammu

Unjust  Call

It is unfortunate that the BJP with its alliance with J&K Chief
Minister Mehbooba Mufti is acting like a helpless partner. It seems both the parties cannot stay within the alliance nor stay out of the alliance. Mehbooba’s  suggestion to hold talks with Pakistan at a time when the Pakistani Army is shelling our border villages and sending across trained militants is absolutely baseless and a sign of her high-headedness. The Indian government need to act firmly against Pakistan, talks would not help at this stage unless there is a change in the attitude of Pakistan. A war with Pakistan would hurt our economy. We need to choose time and place to hit them so hard that they take ten years to recover.

Trudeau’s Visit Had Many Positives

The visit of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Punjab (Land of Five Rivers) last month will certainly yield positive and effective results and would prove to be a booster for strengthening the relations, trade, commerce and exchange of cultural heritage with India, and specially with Punjab. The Canadian Prime Minister has assured that his country does not support any separatist movement in India or elsewhere. Punjabi”s living in Canada have, with their sincere hard work and efforts, given a boost to the Canadian economy in all sectors. The relations between India and Canada will be further strengthened in coming years as the Indian students in large number are going to Canada for education even as the exchange of Education through Universities of Canada having M.O.Us with various Indian universities is a booster towards an exchange of various Technical education streams.
— Rajat Kumar Mohindru, Jalandhar
