“TRIPURA is the most ill-governed state in India and the worst in terms of any parameters of development—whether it is unemployment, security for women or implementation of central schemes”
—Ram Madhav, National General Secretary, BJP

Ganesh Krishnan R

“The CPM has created such an image of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, for the last over 25 years that the people in Delhi and elsewhere are not aware of his true face. He and his party use violence for their survival. The story of Kerala is now known to everyone but the Tripura story is yet to be told. It is worse and more brutal than the stories of Kerala,” said Shri Ram Madhav, national general secretary of the BJP on January 23, in New Delhi. While speaking at the release function of the book, Manik Sarkar: Real and the Virtual published by Prabhat Prakashan. Violence has been subsumed into the Communist ideology in the name of class struggle. The people of Bharat have made the Leftists irrelevant in the country. Now the CPM is trying to piggyback on the Congress but both will drown, he added.
Commending the idea of releasing the book in the national capital, he said that Delhi was the best place as the capital city is infested with the intellectuals who put the real face of Manik Sarkar out of sight and hail him as ‘simple man’ and as an example of good governance. “It’s a facade. Tripura is the most ill-governed state in India and the worst in terms of any parameters of development— whether it is unemployment, security for women or implementation of central schemes,” he said.
Ram Madhav said that the influence of the BJP has increased manifold in the whole Northeast. In Tripura,
people hope for a political change. The efforts of the
leaders like Sunil Deodhar have started bearing the fruits. Tripura model of governance is a failed model. The BJP is the only alternative; Tripura hopes for it and deserves it.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt Meenakshi Lekhi, MP, slammed the Leftist journalists who kept mum after the brutal murder of two journalists in Tripura. She also explained the agony of common people and the tribal
populace in the state on the basis of her first-hand
experience, her visit to the state a few months ago. She alleged that the much celebrated frugal lifestyle of Manik Sarkar is nothing but a myth. “It is heard that he does not own a car but he roams around the state in helicopters and an RTI document exposed that the helicopter bills amounted to Rs 10 crore. Is this the way the Chief Minister of such a poor state like Tripura leads simple life?” she asked.
Sambit Patra, national spokesperson of the BJP, called for impeaching Manik Sarkar under whose reign Tripura has been rendered lawless. Sunil Deodhar, the BJP
in-charge of Tripura, congratulated the author Dinesh Kanji for the efforts he has made to unmask Manik Sarkar and present his real face before the readers. Pointing out the sharp rise in violence against women in the state, Deodhar alleged that the CPM has, in fact, never won any elections in Tripura because the final election results were always manipulated by booth capturing and rigging. In Tripura, there was a fair number of anti-CPM and nationalists in Congress as they had no choice other than Congress. Now they are joining the BJP. Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP Tripura state president, asserted that people of Tripura will throw the CPM out of power and the BJP will win the Assembly elections and rule
the state.
According to Dinesh Kanji, the author of ‘Manik Sarkar: Real and Virtual’, the book seeks to expose the real gory face of the anarchic rule of Manik Sarkar and  highlight the crimes and misdeeds of the Communists of Tripura in the last decades.    n
