Gaurav Tyagi from Shanghai

Contrary to what majority of people believe, China is a multi-party country and has eight non-Communist parties. with limited stakes in the actual governance. They are; the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, the China Democratic League, the China National Democratic Construction Association, the China Association for Promoting Democracy, the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, the China Zhi Gong Party, the Jiu San Society and the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.
The Communist Party of China (CPC) is the ruling Party in China with more than 89 million members. The five-yearly Congress held in Beijing was covered by more than 3000 journalists, including around 1800 from 134 foreign countries. The session was broadcast live around the world. Approximately 2,300 delegates and specially invited representatives passed resolutions on the report of the 18th CPC Central Committee and an amendment to the CPC Constitution.
The incumbent President Xi Jinping, 64 years of age was again elected as the leader of China for a second successive five-year term. CPC has an informal retirement age of 68.
Rare Feet
Xi Jinping only the third Chinese leader after Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping to have his thoughts on governance enshrined as a new component of the party’s guide for action.
The Communist Party of China, which would be celebrating its 100 years in 2021, has led China from an impoverished country to a major global power.
The Communist Party of China under Xi Jinping has clamped down hard on corruption.Bai Xueshan, former vice-chairman of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region was expelled from the party in November 2015. As per the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Bai seriously violated political discipline by conducting superstitious activities over a long period of time.
Corruption Aglore
China also witnessed several serious and significant corruption cases in recent years, involving senior leaders of CPC Central Committee like; Zhou Yongkang, Bo Xilai, Guo Boxiong, Xu Caihou, Sun Zhengcai and Ling Jihua. They all were ejected from the party and punished in accordance with the national and the CPC laws.
“This means any Party member who violates the discipline and law will be punished, no matter how high his or her position is,” said Tuo Zhen, Spokesman for the 19th National Congress of the CPC.
The party seeks to double the Chinese 2010 GDP figures by 2020 through measures like the continuation of its opening up policy and expanding market access to foreign investors. Made in China 2025 strategy aims at upgrading Chinese economy into upcoming fields like intelligent manufacturing and robotics.
Even Russian President, Vladimir Putin called the 19th National Congress of CPC as ‘unprecedentedly open’. Putin stated; “We have great cooperation plans with China in the areas of Space, High Tech and Energy”.
Challenges
China constitutes the world’s second largest economy by nominal GDP at $11.8 trillion and the world’s largest economy of $23.2 trillion by purchasing power parity (PPP) according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). China contributed approximately 30% to the world’s economic growth during the period, 2013-2016. Chinese travellers spent $261 billion on foreign travel in 2016, a 12 percent increase in the corresponding figure from 2015, thereby marking a new record for global outbound tourist spending.
Challenges remain, but China is definitely on the fast track to achieve aims and objectives set by the party.     n
