The Popular Front of India ( PFI), the new avatar of the banned SIMI, is conspicuous by its nefarious presence in Love Jihad
The radical Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI), which has deep roots in Kerala, is once again hitting the headlines with the SC directed NIA probe.

Although media reports suggest there are at least 22 Keralites who have joined ISIS, NIA suspects the total figure can be more than 80! As per the reports, at least 14 people have already been killed in the war front. Taking all these facts into account, NIA has now decided to probe into 648 missing cases (out of which 297 are girls) which have been reported in the last 5 years, between 2012 and 2017. The NIA’s preliminary investigation revealed the hands of a ‘mentor’ in all the cases, an agent of PFI.
The Jihadi violence in Kerala is as old as the notorious Moplah riots in 1921, in which thousands of Hindus were brutally massacred. The history of Islamic fundamentalism in the state in post-independent period, dates back to the formation of the Kerala chapter of Jammat-e-Islami Hind, which held its first meeting in Valanchery in Malappuram, on January 30, 1948. In the last quarter of 20th century, the state also witnessed the alarming rise of a full-fledged terrorist organisation called Students Islamist Movement of India (SIMI). After ban on SIMI, a radical Islamist organisation namely National Democratic Front (NDF) was formed in the state in 1989. Simultaneously, Abdul Nassar Madani launched a Muslim outfit called Islamic Seva Sangh aka ISS. A charismatic speaker famous for his penchant for bombastic rhetoric, Madhani stirred up the Muslim youth across the state. Later, he was arrested in connection with various terrorist plots in south India including Coimbatore and Bengaluru blast cases.
Later, NDF merged in PFI and continued its clandestine activities. Interestingly, all these radical Islamist organisations took shape and nurtured under the garb of leftist ideology. The standard operational procedure was wielding communist revolutionary slogans and terminology to get acceptance.
The PFI is an umbrella organisation of various political and non-political entities and trusts like Campus Front of India, National Women Front, Social Democratic Party of India, All India Imam Council, Confederation of Human Rights Organisation etc. According to a Home Ministry dossier, the PFI has around 60,000 regular members and 85,000 sympathisers in Kerala, with a growth rate of 3 to 5 per cent per annum. Besides having strong presence in Kerala and Tamil Nadu PFI, a society registered in Delhi, has now spread its base from Manipur to Gujarat. It is an undeniable fact that the PFI is nothing but the banned terrorist organisation SIMI under the veil. The PFI leaders like E M Abdu Rahiman, Prof P Koya, E Aboobecker, P Abdul Hameed, K Muhammed Ali etc were at the helm of SIMI at various points of time. Pertinently, the incidents of Love Jihads have been reported from the strong holds of PFI like Kasaragod, Malappuram, Kannur, Kozhikkodu, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram.
Sathya Sarani Islamic Dawa Institute, a mysterious Islamic conversion centre also comes under the PFI. Quoting NIA officials, a national channel has recently brought out the role of ‘Dawa squards’ in luring Hindu-Christian girls and converting them to Islam. A source in Home Ministry confirmed that Salafi organisations in Malappuram have received a sum of 150 Crore from a single source in Qatar last year. A large section of traditional Sunni Muslims are also up in arm against the clandestine activities of Sathya Sarani and PFI which pose equal threat to the customs and practices
of their community. The widespread of Salafism, funded by West Asian countries, is observed as the foremost reason for the rampant radicalisation of Muslim youth
in Kerala.
