New Delhi: “From our ancient ethos of continuous change to Buddha’s
philosophy of Charaiveti, to Gurudev’s call of Ekla Chalo, the philosophy of eternal and continuous change is reflected in everybody’s life, as
stagnation leads to death and marching ahead is life,” said the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee while receiving the Hindi, English, Urdu and Gujarati translations of the book Charaiveti! Charaiveti!! originally written in Marathi by Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 9. The President received the copies of the books from Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari, who formally released them in the presence of scores of
eminent personalities.
The President Shri Pranab Mukherjee said he was struck by the title of the book Charaiveti! Charaiveti!! which means keep walking or keep marching. The title is both emotive and philosophical. “The life of Shri Ram Naik is unique. I know Shri Naik in different capacities. He played an instrumental role in
introducing the practice of singing of Jana Gana Mana and Vande Matram on the opening and closing days of every Session of the Parliament. This reflected his originality of ideas. Shri Naik always thinks of new and innovative measures to be taken which is also seen in the reports he sends to him as Governor of Uttar Pradesh,” the President further said that books narrate the story of a
struggling soul which will inspire many to overcome odds in their lives. The President wished Shri Naik many more productive years in the service of the nation.
Vice President Shri Mohd. Hamid Ansari described the life journey of Shri Naik from Shamali (Maharashtra) to Lucknow as inspiring. Smt Sumitra Mahajan applauded the clean image that Shri Naik maintained in the long
political career. “The way he presents the account of his annual activities before the people of his constituency shows his accountability to the people, and it has been followed by many other Members of the Parliament,” she said.
Shri Venkaiah Naidu said Shri Naik has been an ideal worker, ideal MP, ideal minister and now an ideal Governor. “Above all he is an ideal human being. We need to emulate such personality,” he added. Shri Sharad Pawar said Shri Naik has faced many ups and downs with bravery.
Shri Naik while introducing the book highlighted how he came from a small village of Maharashtra and after holding various responsibilities is now Governor of a big State like Uttar Pradesh. He also spoke how he was instrumental in
introducing national song and national anthem in the Parliament, introducing MP Development Fund, introducing CNG in Delhi and Mumbai, renaming of Bombay as Mumbai, and some steps for women empowerment.
Governor of Goa Smt Mridula Sinha, Lt Governor of Delhi Shri Najib Jung, Governor of Gujarat Prof Omprakash Kohli, Governor of Punjab Shri VP Singh Bandor, Assam Governor Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Union HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Power Shri Piyush Goel, JD(U) leader Shri Sharad Yadav and leaders from various
political parties were also present.
Hindi translation of the book has been done by Smt Kumud Sanghavi Chavare and its forward has been
written by Governor of Goa Smt Mridula Sinha. The English translation has been done by Shri Dilip Chavare and its forward has been written by Union Power Minister Shri Piyush Goyal. Both the Hindi and English
sections have been published by Prabhat Prakashan. Urdu translation has been done by Dr Abbas Raza Naiyer of Lucknow, while the Gujarati translation has been done by Smt Nilaben Soni.
