Two gau bhaktas, Hanumant Parab, president of Gouvansh Raksha Abhiyan, and Amrit Singh, president of ‘Animal Rescue Squad’, were brutally attacked by Muslim fanatics in the night of February 12 around 9.30 pm at Chorla Ghats, Goa. Both had gone to meet the Superintendent of Police in Belgaum, Karnataka, to lodge a complaint against a gang which supplies beef in Goa. They were returning to Goa in a vehicle when the fanatics attacked them. The killers stopped their vehicle at Chorla Ghat (North Goa–the border line of Goa-Maharashtra-Karnataka), attacked the car, broke the glasses and beat them up with sticks. Amrut Singh sustained serious head injuries. Driver Shri Vasudev Zarekar was injured in the attack.
The fanatics were to set the vehicle on fire along with ‘Gou Rakshaks’ but soon three vehicles passing by reached there. ‘Gou Rakshaks’ tried to shout and draw attention of the passing vehicles but fanatics tried to shoo them away. Two vehicles left but driver of one vehicle didn’t got scared and stopped; as a result, fanatics ran away. Injured ‘Gou Rakshaks’ crossed the Ghat in the other vehicle. They were taken to Government hospital at Sakhali. Amrit Singh is
being treated at Goa Medical College, Bamboli and is stated to be stable now.
Lucknow: Cow Milk Party to counter Beef Party Amidst beef controversy and to counter the ongoing “beef politics”, a group of local citizens at Hazratganj in Lucknow, including Hindus and Muslims, organised a cow milk party in which cow’s milk was served in earthen cups. The milk party, was designed to drive home the point that the cow milk is a life giver substance and hence cows should not be slaughtered. Amongst several Muslims who partook was the Imam of Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, who is also a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. He appreciated the organisers’ role and said, “Cows should neither be slaughtered, nor should cow meat be consumed. Bharat has long history of protecting the cow. Babar had advised his son Humayun to protect the cows and the rights of Hindus, if he wished to take forward the Mughal Empire.” The Maulana also pointed out that cow milk and ghee made from it, have healing properties while meat invites diseases. ““Cows should neither be slaughtered, nor should cow meat be consumed. Bharat has a long history of protecting the cows.”—Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, Member AIMALB” Former chief medical superintendent of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) Dr Gurmeet Singh, said, “It is a known fact that after mother’s milk, cow’s milk is the best option and it is advised by doctors for infants.” An online campaign was also launched on the occasion and similar events have been planned in other parts of the State to demand strict laws for cow protection.
