News Round-up : Free meal to hospital patients by Sewa Bharati Ernakulam
Ernakulam unit of Sewa Bharati has started serving mid-day meal to the patients at Government General Hospital in Kochi from July 1. Noted Physician Dr Sachidananda Kamath inaugurated the initiative. The food will be served daily from 7 am onwards. Sewa Bharati has been providing free meals for many years in Kerala. In Kasaragod, it is actively involved in the scheme, which has received huge public applause. RSS Kochi Mahanagar Karyavah Shri Rajesh Chandran, Bauddhik Pramukh Shri Abhinu Suresh, Sewa Bharati coordinator Shri PS Manikantan, Nagar Sanghachalak Shri Lakshminarayanan, and other local functionaries attended the function.

Second time in the same week, RSS swayamsevaks of Kolar in Karnataka cleaned the premises and temple lake of historic 800 year old Sri Gouri Gangadhareshwara Temple in Kolar on July 5. As a part of Sewa Sanghik, they along with other voluntary organisations including scouts and guides took the initiative of cleaning the Temple lake. The temple was built during Chola Empire. The lake was badly polluted.
CPI(M) attack at Sangh Shakha in Tripura
Some anti-social elements led by CPI(M) MLA Tapan Ch. Das attacked the RSS Shakha in Sepahijala District of Tripura on July 6. The Shakha was being conducted at East Nalchar (Killamura SB School) ground. The CPI(M) goons first intimidated the swayamsevaks and then made two Sangh Vistaraks hostage.
They were later released with the help of local police. Prant Karyavah Nripendra Ch Roy has got the complain registered at Melaghr Police Station seeking police protection to the swayamsevaks and demanding the arrest of the culprits.
According to reports, the swayamsevaks conducted Shakha as per daily routine. They were doing physical drills when the local MLA along with his associates started abusing them. When the swayamsevaks objected, he threatened of killing them. Two Vistaraks, Shri Rupamay Biswash and Shri Akshayoi Sebnath, who were also present there at the moment, were forcefully taken away by the MLA and his men. Both were released after several hours with the help of local police.

Quite often the solution is far easier than even imagined. More than a dozen infants died in Government hospitals within a single week a few months back in Dharmapuri District of Tamil Nadu. The cause was found as malnutrition. Recently, the volunteers of Ekal Vidyalaya movement found that simple home remedies improve the health level of pregnant mothers and new born infants. It happened like this; 1,011 women in hamlets where Ekal Vidyalaya work were administered a combination of herbal home remedies and Ayurveda-Siddha medicines under the guidance of experts in the respective systems. The nutrition level of 846 of them (84 per cent) improved. This successful attempt at fighting malnutrition was conducted in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts of Tamil Nadu too. The Ekal Movement pressed into service the Arogya Foundation of India.

SJM demands effective control on hazardous food items
The National Council meeting of Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) held in Vijaywada from June 27 to 28 demanded effective control on hazardous food items. In a resolution adopted at the meeting the SJM said keeping in view the results of researches done on different unhealthy food items, the Government should properly frame standards for ‘ready to eat’ food items and also provide a provision for rigorous punishment for violation of the standards. The Government should also penalise the companies which indulge in the production and sale of such hazardous food items and also completely
prohibit them from doing business in the country. The Manch appealed to the countrymen to boycott the products of such companies and create awareness in the society. The SJM questioned the negligence of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) towards the sale of food items with poisonous substances for so many years. It said despite High Court’s order regarding this issue, many shortcomings have been deliberately left in the regulatory provisions framed to stop sale of unhealthy junk food containing high level of transfat, sugar and salt.

“Women have tremendous power to look after the economy. They do it because they are imparted that kind of sanskar right from childhood. They have the habit of saving money and never supports borrowing money for luxury items. They also know how to live with whatever money they have,” said Rashtra Sevika Samiti Pramukh Sanchalika Shantakka Tai, while addressing a seminar in Delhi on the eve of 110th birth anniversary of Samiti’s founder Mausiji Kelkar. Topic of the seminar was ‘Role of Women in Economy of the Nation’. About 225 women from Delhi attended the workshop, organised by Medhavani Mandal. Shantakka Tai further said the role of good people is paramount in national development. If good people have control over the national wealth, knowledge and strength the nation registers good progress. Women have a big role in shaping and moulding the force of such good people. Earlier, Smt Asha Sharma, Akhil Bharatiya Sah Karyavahika of the Samiti, spoke about the multi dimensional personality of Vandaniya Mausiji Kelkar.

Khalsa changed the history of India: Dr Kuldip Chand Agnihotri
Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Central University Dr Kuldip Chand Agnihotri said the Khalsa sect, formed 300 years ago, altered the history of Bharat. He said the message of valour and social harmony, which originated from the land of Muktsar from Guru Nanak Devji to Guru Gobind Singh should again be echoed in the country. Dr Agnihotri was speaking at a seminar orgnanised by Sangat Sansar Society in Malot, Punjab on June 28. Health Minister of Punjab Shri Surjeet Kumar Jyani said Sri Guru Granth Sahib has the potential of restoring harmony in the country. Former Dean of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Sardar Harminder Singh Bedi said Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the only Granth of Bharat which has teachings of 36 great personalities. Organising secretary of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat Shri Avinash Jaiswal, noted social activist Baba Gurpreet Singh Soni, Sardar Jasbir Singh, Shri Brijlal Rinuva, Bibi Gurcharan Kaur and some others also spoke on the occasion.
