Maharashtra : Hurdles cleared for the Ambedkar Memorial

Intro : In a first of its kind move on the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar by any Government, Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra accorded state honours to the Architect of The Constitution of India.


Recently, State Government signed the tripartite agreement to take over the Indu Mill location in Dadar for setting up the grand memorial of Bharat Ratna awardee Dr BR Ambedkar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took initiative and gave orders to the concern authority, on the request of Chief Minister of the State, Devendra Fadanvis. The agreement to transfer 12.5 acres of land belonging to the Indu Mill adjacent to the Chaitya Bhoomi was inked in the presence of PM Modi, Fadnavis and Union Minister for Textiles Santosh Gangwar.

Earlier state government said that a law is needed to be passed in parliament for such transfer of the land. On this background, the Chief Minister of the state was consistently insistent for the memorial. He took the judgment of the Advocate General of the State who gave feedback, that there is no need of any law to be passed in Parliament and The National Textile Corporation (NTC) may hand over the land to the State Government with prior approval of the Central Government. According to the ‘Section 11 of Textile Undertakings Nationalisation Act 1995’ with prior approval of Central Government NTC may transfer the land to the State Government.
Now with the approval of the Central Government Indu Mill land has been transferred to the State Government for the construction of memorial of the Dr Ambedkar. The State government will pay remuneration to the NTC.
The committee of the three members chaired by Joint Secretary of the Central Government has been formed for the determining the remuneration and execute the other technical formalities to transfer of the land. The committee will take the next action promptly, PC Vaish, Chairman-Managing Director of NTC signed the agreement on behalf of NTC with Aabha Shukla, Resident Commissioner singed on behalf of Maharashtra Govt… CM Fadnavis added that the memorial will be unparalleled not only in the country but also the world. The BJP in its election vision document in Maharashtra had promised to complete the grand national memorial for Dr Ambedkar within five years.
Dr BR Ambedkar is one of the most important leaders of the social revolution in the country. Maharashtra is the place of his great revolutionary work. Dr BR Ambedkar has worked lifetime for the upliftment of the socially backward classes.
The Indu Mill area is near to the Chaitya Bhoomi at Dadar. The memorial of the Dr BR Ambedkar will give a message of equality among society and definitely inspire million of people. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis showed his gratitude towards Prime Minister for his initiative in removing the hurdles in the transfer of land for construction of the memorial for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
