Intro : Syro Malabar Church of Kerala has offered Rs 12 lakh as compensation to the Sister, raped by a Christian priest.

Pope John Paul II and the present Pope are seeking apologies for the rapes perpetuated by the Fathers, on Nuns and the community at large. Also apologies have been offered for child abuse by Nuns and Fathers.
The Kerala Church from 1991 is protecting two Fathers and a Nun who have been proved (brain mapping and polygraph tests) of murder of a 19 years old Nun, Sister Abhaya, for the sole crime of being witness to the sexual orgy of the Fathers and a Nun. She was murdered and thrown into convent well. Using police and political pressure, all evidences, were destroyed. Despite Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) implicating them, the church is using money, muscle and political power to save them. Now, for the first time in the history of Church in Kerala, a Nun, Sister Anita, who was raped by a Christian priest, is being given a compensation of Rs 12 lakh by the Church.
Sister Anita who belongs to the congregation of Sisters of Agatha was raped by a priest when she was teaching at Panchore in Madhya Pradesh in 2011. When she raised her voice, she was transferred to Mother House, Italy, where she faced unbearable physical and mental harassment. For days together, she had to face physical brutality and hunger. Later the Italian convent threw her out and with the help of a friend, reached an orphanage in Aluva near Kochi. She continued her battle against the rape at a conciliation meet held at St Joseph’s Church, Aluva, presided over by Syro-Malabar Church spokesperson Father Paul. Sister Anita was given a compensation of Rs 12 lakh and asked to discard the ‘Holy Robes’.

A Closed Chapter

While talking to the media on March 2, Chairman of Airport Authority of India RK Sreenivasan said that, “The Aranmula International Airport Project is a closed chapter now and there would not be any decision in favour of this airport. He added that the project was included in the government’s ‘Economic Survey’ due to a technical error. Earlier Supreme Court of India had taken clear stand against the project and the National Green Tribunal of Kerala had issued various verdicts against this project too because there are several environmental issues involved in it. Airport Authority had stated several months before that it was impossible to go ahead with this project. Union Ministry of Finance has informed the Airport Authority about the technical shortcomings regarding the project.
The Chairman also vindicated the years long protest led by Kummanam Rajasekharan, senior leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Hindu Aikya Vedi (HAV), State BJP leadership and renowned poet and environmentalist Prof Sugathakumari.
It was also exposed that the plot to reduce the height of the flag mast of the ancient and famous Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, filling of acres of paddy fields, waterbodies and canals in the name of the project was also initiated. These activities are detrimental to water sources as well as foodgrains and that is why Sangh parivar organisations came forward to fight against the airport project. Now, ultimately the force led by Sangh has won the fight.                               —T Satisan from Kochi
