Intro: Without waiting for the inquiry report on so-called attacks on several churches in Delhi, some Church leaders are trying to incite the Christians against Hindu organisations. The Poor Christian Liberation Movement termed it as an effort to disturb the communal harmony of Delhi. It said the Church leaders are vitiating peaceful ambience of the national capital as part of their greater design and vested interests.
Poor Christian Liberation Movement (PCLM) has accused the Church leaders of ‘misleading’ the Christian community against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement issued on February 3 PCLM president RL Francis alleged that the Church leaders are misleading the Christian members at Sunday Mass in Churches under Delhi Catholic Archdiocese by instigating them against the BJP, RSS and the Narendra Modi Government.
He said without waiting for the inquiry report on several incidents related to Churches in Delhi, the Church leaders are inciting the members against Hindu organisations. They wanted to accuse the Hindu organisations and Modi government for those incidents.
He alleged that some Church leaders were trying to portray at the national and international level that Christians in India are not safe under the Modi government. He said a section of these leaders was so eager to take on the RSS and Modi Government that they launched a free helpline number to show how the Christians were being persecuted by the Hindus.
MHA seeks report from Delhi Police on Church attack Hours after a church was vandalised in Vasant Kunj area of Delhi recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) called for a report from Delhi police on the steps being taken to secure religious places. The Ministry sought an update on the status of investigations into attacks on religious places reported in the recent months. “We have asked if any arrests were made following similar incidents over the last six months,” a senior Home Ministry official told the media on February 1. |
Shri Francis said these leaders were active during the tenure of Atal Behari Vajpayee government also. Now too they have become active with the change in the government at the Centre. Taking a dig at these leaders the PCLM leader asked had they started such a helpline for poor Christians, it would have benefitted them to resolve their problems. He further alleged that these leaders were trying to create ‘anti-BJP’ atmosphere in Delhi in view of the incumbent assembly elections and all their efforts were continuing in this direction. He wanted to know how many complaints of persecution they received on their helpline from the Christians against the Hindus.
He said the Christians are minority in Delhi and they are living in peaceful atmosphere with their Hindu neighbours. But some Church leaders are vitiating that peaceful ambience by their anti-Hindu campaign as part of their greater design and vested interests. He also accused the Church leaders of trying to pursue US President Barack Obama to cancel his visit to India. Referring to a meeting of some Church leaders held in Bengaluru before the visit of the US President, he said they were divided amongst themselves hence could not force for the same. But when Shri Obama came to India they prevailed upon him to speak of religious conflicts invoking Article 25 of the Constitution.
Shri Francis appealed to the Church leaders to stop all such canards and activities as they pollute the peaceful co-existence of the Christians and Hindus in India.
