Vijnana Bharati, a premier organisation dedicated to the cause of Indian science, urged the Government of India to include Indian contributions to the world of science, technology, environment and other diverse domains in school and college syllabus. “The Government should also initiate exclusive research and development centres to go deep into the traditional knowledge embedded in our repository of rare and illuminating manuscripts. We have to explore further and make it available to the Indian masses in a digestible format. If we really want to transform India to lead the world, we have to inculcate the shining glory of India and its scientific wisdom accumulated over thousands of years in the minds of our emerging youth with all vigour fervor,” Vijnana Bharati said in a statement issued.
Vijnana Bharati general secretary Shri Jayakumar, in the statement, said the recent criticism and negative statements on Indian achievements in the world of science and technology demonstrated the bias and the vacuum existing in some sections of Indian intelligentsia. “Either they are deliberately trying to negate the rich traditional knowledge of India or they are totally ignorant of it. From the beginning itself communists never accepted India’s contributions to the world of science in any field. It was their open stand that both Arabs and Europeans are the real custodians of these knowledge preceding Indians. After India got Independence the pro-western outlook of Jawaharlal Nehru influenced the Government of the day to neglect India’s scientific contributions from official parlance including academic curricula. So, the rich and diverse knowledge of India accumulated over thousands of years left completely neglected over all these years,” the statement said.
The statement pointed out that taking cognisance of all these facts the Vijnana Bharati (Vibha) through its Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan, a national science talent search competition, imparted the rich scientific heritage of India to lakhs of students over the last ten years. In the Middle East countries itself Vibha could impart Indian achievements to three lakh students. “Vibha is of the opinion that now it is high time to restructure the prevailing academic syllabus in Indian education sector especially in schools. Ancient technologies, which have stood the test of the times and classical texts of Ayurveda should be incorporated in the higher education sector as well,” the statement added.
Vijnana Bharati questioned why certain so-called intellectuals and academicians oppose or are reluctant to accept India’s traditional wisdom and knowledge? If we conduct an unbiased research we could comprehend the reasons. This traditional knowledge and scientific contributions are the contributions of ancient seers and ‘rishis’ of Bharat through their intuitive capabilities and highly evolved brains, are solely India’s own which under no circumstances the pro-western lobby can claim their rights to, the statement added.
The statement stressed the need to transform the new generation to build a new Bharat. “We have to show them the real face of our motherland shining with rich knowledge and deep insights in science, technology, environment and other diverse domains,” the statement added. n
