Desi Deepavali

This refers to the special article ‘Delicious Deepavali’ in the issue of Organiser, dt. 26.10.2014. On page 56 the writer has mentioned those items which are uncommon like Cashew Barfi and Kajjaya. He has totally misrepresented the State by which we are disappointed. Here I wish to point out to the readers that the common and most popular sweet items of Karnataka is Holligi which is made of channa dal, maida ,jaggery in the form of a chapatti and consumed by mixing desi ghee and hot milk. Obbattu is another sweet item which is commonly consumed in south Karnataka and is another form of Holligi. Another sweet item is Chiroti which is made up of rice flour in the form of north Indian Puri and mixed with powdered sugar and consumed with hot milk ,and of course another item is the Msore Pak.I have a bit of advise to the writer that if he does not have necessary knowledge of the concerned State , let him not write anything which may misrepresent the State and disappoint the readers.

Kudos to Organiser

(Organiser, 26.10.2014 ); Kudos to Organiser for taking out the issue titled ‘Desi Deepavali’ in which 25 pages have been given to recipes of various sweet items made during the festival under the heading ‘Delicious Deepavali’. In fact I was going to buy a recipe book, but after going through the issue of Organiser I dropped the idea of purchasing a separate book on recipes made during the festival time as the issue has provided the recipes of a number of sweet items.

Depicting Feminine Gender

(Organiser, 5.10.2014); In Organiser issue dated 5.10.2014, the Editor Shri Prafulla Ketkar has mentioned one very important point in the editorial titled ‘Depicting Feminine Gender’. It has been stressed that “man woman relationship is complimentary to each other rather than it being exclusive”. Husband and wife are not aloof but become one after marriage. This is our Hindu culture, and both take vows at the time of marriage to remain one throughout and perform their duties faithfully. Manusmriti says that, where women are respected, gods live there and where women are abused those families get destroyed.

Paradoxical situation

The present day situation in Afghanistan can indeed be described as a paradoxical one. Thirteen years ago, when the allied forces of western powers entered that country to tackle the Talibani menace, it was labelled as an “imperialistic” invasion by occupation armies. Now, more than one and half decade later, when they are leaving on their own after finishing the task, they are being requested to stay on for some more time.

Don’t follow the mirage

Will the Ministry of External Affairs tell the nation by releasing a White Paper on total number of peace dialogues held with Pakistan during the last 67 seven years prolonged period and their out come .Even if after a lapse of seven decades period peace is not restored then what is the use of having further talks. How long such type of drama will continue?
