Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) celebrated Independence Day across the country on August 15.
The swayamsevaks saluted the National Flag wherever they attended the function.
Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat hoisted the national flag at Mohitewada Grounds at Mahal in Nagpur. Significantly, Mohitewada is the birth place of the RSS, where it was founded in 1925 by Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.
In Delhi, top RSS functionaries including Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Dr Manmohan Vaidya, Akhil Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramukh Shri J Nandakumar along with many prominent leaders from the Sangh associated organisations attended the Independence Day celebration at Red Fort. RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale attended a function at Sambalpur in Odisha. In Chennai, Shri MN Sundar, Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat leader unfurled the National Flag at the Sangh Karyalaya. So much of devotion is there in the swayamsevaks towards Bharatmata that in Hosur, Shri Venkat, a swayamsevak, got married in the morning. Immediately after tying the knot, he appealed to the guests to stand up for national anthem.
But in an unfortunate incident at Coonoor, Nilgris district, the swayamsevaks were denied to perform Bharatmata Pujan by the police.
New team of the National Organisation of Insurance Workers (NOIW) was declared recently. Shri Prakash Gadgoli of Thane is the president. Shri Shrawan Kumar Agrawal from Ambala is working president. Shri Somesh Biswas from Silchar, Shri Brahmesh Hardikar from Mumbai, Shri Priyabratodutta from Kolkata and Shri Kishore Virmani from Ajmer are vice presidents. Shri M Sabir Ansari from Bhopal is general secretary. Shri Pranab Kumar Jha from Patna, Shri Rajiv Kumar from Delhi, Shri Nakul Paswan from Hajaribagh and Shri Sunkara Srinivas from Vijayawada are secretaries. “The soul of Bharat rests in the spirituality. Hinduism gives the vision to see the God in human being,” said RSS Sahsarkaryavah Dr Krishna Gopal, while felicitating Prof Satish Chandra Mittal with Dr Hedgewar Pragya Samman in Kolkata on August 15. The Samman is presented by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya.
Dr Krishna Gopal said Dr Hedgewar diagnosed the basic malady of the society and prescribed an effective remedy for it in the form of RSS. The chief guest of the function was Panchjanya editor Shri Hitesh Shankar. The function was presided over by noted social activist Shri Sajjan Bhajnaka. —Bureau Report
“The RSS is involved in building the ideal workers who are awakened and show full probity in their personal life before leading the society,” said RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi. He was speaking at Rakshabandhan Utsava organised in Delhi. Workers from different Sangh associated organisations attended the function. Explaining collective thinking mechanism of the Sangh, Bhaiyaji said the RSS does not propagate any new ideology but follows the basic thinking of the nation in all activities. Since certain wrong practices had developed in the society due to the slavery, the then RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Bala Saheb Deoras in 1974 said to work for building a harmonious society.
Bhaiyaji said the RSS is neither against anyone nor it has the will to show its strength. Quoting the RSS founder Dr Hedgewar he said we neither want to terrorise anyone nor are terrorised by anyone. He called upon all the workers to move forward in the service of the nation. Senior BJP leader Shri LK Advani, Smt Sumitra Mahajan, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu and Dr Manmohan Vaidya were also present on the occasion. —Bureau Report
Yoga guru Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar popularly known as BKS Iyengar, born on December 14, 1918 passed away at a private hospital in Pune on August 20. The 96-year-old yoga exponent was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital for poor heart function and difficulty in breathing.
Iyengar was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991, the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2014. In 2004, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
On behalf of all swayamsevaks of RSS, Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi offered humble pranam to this great soul and said, “Death is imminent for who is born. But when one who is near and dear, or who has committed himself to a great public cause dies, it certainly leads to profound sorrow. In the passing away of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar, we have lost a great exponent of Yoga, Bharat has gifted to the world in the modern times. It is indescribable in words, our grief and the sense of loss. We pray the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul and strength to his family and wellwishers.”
Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) in collaboration with the 1st Assam Rifles (LH) Unit, Khonsa, conducted a Defence Forces Recruitment Orientation Camp for youths of Soha circle under Tirap district on July 27. A total of 96 youth took part in the camp. AVP is organising such camps in various parts of the State as part of the initiative to generate awareness about expansionist China and to inspire youths to be a part of the defence forces.
The camp was inaugurated by Shri Wangphiam Lowang, District Committee advisor of the AVP. The resource persons from 1st Assam Rifles (LH) unit guided the youth to how to prepare for physical and written test for recruitment. They examined the youth physically, medically and also conducted a written test and gave necessary guidance and instructions to perform better. Assam Rifles is making a data bank of the youths so that it will be useful in future.
Free distribution of medicines was also a part of the day long camp. Around 200 patients were benefitted. Volleyball competition was also conducted. Eight teams from Soha, Turet, Old Doidum and New Doidum participated in the completion. Shri Ngongsi Ngongwa, AVP worker, was honoured as the best worker by the Assam Rifles.
