Children recycling and reusing the waste material can result in making of fantastic and usable products. Rather than putting these waste materials into the landfills, we can create useful products. All you need is a creative and innovative spark. Instead of buying expensive decorative items from the market we can easily make them at home with the help of certain waste items normally found in our homes. In this issue we are going to learn to make a clock out of waste material.
Most of us have lots of waste CDs lying around at home. If you have a cheap or a broken clock, you can use it to create a wonderful CD clock. Just take out the machinery from the clock and keep all parts separately, taking care not to damage any part and not to lose anything. In case you do not have a clock at home you can buy the machine (called pulse motor) from shops that sell watches and clocks. It costs around fifty rupees.
Material Required:

• An old/discarded CD
• Machine of a clock
• Set of three needles (available in shops that sell watches and clocks)
• One Battery (Pencil Cell)
• Any picture (to be put on the face of the clock)
• Glue (to sick the picture or photograph on the CD)
• Cut out numbers from old calendar to show the hours. You can also use old buttons/bindis to show the hours

Method:

Step 1: Paste the photograph or picture on the CD.
Step 2: Paste the numbers/buttons to show the hours on the CD.
Step 3: Put the shaft of the machine in the central hole of the CD.
Step 4: Place the machine/pulse motor under the CD so that the shaft of the machine is seen on the other side.
Step 5: Tighten the machine with the help of a screw provided in the machine.
Step 6: Start placing the needles in the shaft of the machine. Put the hour needle first (Which is smaller in size as compared to minutes needle) and gently press it and then place the minutes and seconds needle. While placing the needle do not apply too much pressure on them.
Step 7: Insert the battery in the compartment provided in the machine.
And lo, the clock is ready! You can make a stand with the help of cardboard if you want to put the clock on the study desk. To hang it on the wall you can make a ring of old wire or thick thread and stick it to the machine using glue.
You can decorate the face of the clock using pictures of your friends, family members or your favourite sport stars. Instead of using a CD you can use a tile or plate to make the dial.
