Now foodgrains scam in Bihar

Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shri Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that for the last six months ration has not been distributed in the state. The State Government took this decision without thinking about its side effects. He said instead of purchasing foodgrains from the farmers the government is purchasing from neighbouring states resulting in huge loss to the State farmers.

Bihar

He said the Government made huge claims of decentralisation, but its impact has totally been ineffective. “This year not even small amount of wheat was purchased locally. Last year, 5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was purchased, while the target was 15 lakh metric tonnes. Only one month is left for the purchase the government is far away from achieving the target. The farmers whose wheat has not yet been purchased are being forced to dispose off their wheat at throw away prices, leave aside the encouragement amount, which they used to get,” Shri Modi said.
He pointed out that the ration worth Rs 200 crore is stored with the state food corporation. But the government is neither buying the fresh foodgrains fromt the farmers nor making it available to ration shops.
Talking to mediapersdons in Patna recently Shri Modi informed that in February and March the State Government implemented the Food Security Bill. In reality, a proper plan should have been made before taking this decision, but the State government enforced the law in haste. As a result poor people are yearning for food. During the last two years the state government purchased hardly 10 per cent of the foodgrains, whereas the national average is 30 per cent. This decision of the government made the farmers starve.
