There has been a long debate on granting 33 per cent reservation to women in legislatures. Even before the law to this effect could be passed Shri Modi practically granted 25 per cent reservation to women in the cabinet. There are total 23 cabinet ministers in the cabinet, out of which 7 six women leaders are cabinet minister and one Minister of State with Independent Charge. They include Smriti Irani (HRD), Smt Sushma Swaraj (External Affairs), Uma Bharati (Water Resources), Dr Najma A Heptulla (Minority Affairs), Smt Maneka Gandhi (Women and Child Development), Smt Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Food Processing Industries), and Smt Nirmala Sitharaman (Commerce and Industry).
