Yeddyurappa merges his party with BJP

undefinedIn a view to support Shri Narendra Modi for the post of Prime Minister, former CM of Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa merged his party with the BJP on January 9. A warm welcome was given to him by Karnataka BJP unit president Prahlad Joshi, national general secretary Ananth Kumar, former CM Sadananda Gowda, former CM Jagadish Shettar, office bearers and large number of party workers.

With the merger of Yeddyurappa’s party (Karnataka Janata Paksha, KJP), the BJP has now got the official Opposition Party status. Both the BJP and the Janata Dal (S) had secured 40 seats each in the assembly election but Opposition Party status was given to the JD(S) due to its large vote share. While four MLA’s of KJP joined the BJP, two others have taken time to arrive at a decision.

Displaying Modi’s placards, Shri Yeddyurappa and his team consisting of KJP MLA’s, office bearers and well-wishers arrived at Jagannatha Bhavan, BJP’s Headquarters situated in Malleshwaram. Before arriving in padayatra to BJP office, they performed a pooja at the ancient Kadu Malleshwara Temple near BJP office.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Yeddyurappa said he took the decision to support Narendra Modi when Modi was declared a Prime Ministerial candidate. “I want to see that Modi becomes next Prime Minister of the country,” he said.  The KJP had secured 10 per cent votes during the last assembly elections.            (Guru Prasad)
