National president of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti Shri Dinanath Batra filed an FIR against Penguin Publishers at Hauz Khas Police Station in New Delhi on November 14 for tampering with the map of Kashmir. In a book, The Hindus: An Alternative History, by American writer Wendy Doniger, the publisher has printed the maps, which show that Kashmir was not part of India from 600CE to 1600 CE. Fact is that Kashmir has been very much part of India during all these years and there are evidences proving it. Shri Batra has termed the distorted maps as a threat to unity and integrity of the nation, which would only strengthen the hands of separatists and terrorists.
The first edition of the book was published on April 24, 2009, while the second edition came in 2011. The publisher has so far sold about 1000 copies of the book disseminating wrong information about Kashmir all over the world. Shri Batra termed it a clear case of treason and sought criminal action against the publisher immediately.
Shri Batra has attached five maps of Kashmir showing the state’s history of 850 AD, 1022 AD, 1312 AD, 1450 AD and 1605 AD. All these maps show Kashmir as an integral part of India. These maps have been taken from the Historical Atlas of India, published in 1942 from Lahore and used by Shri Sitaram Goel and Shri Hariram Gupta in their books.
Wendy Doniger cannot claim that she is not aware of Kashmir history, as he has extensively discussed about the state in her book. On page from 503 to 5256 under chapter 18 she claims that there were philosophical feuds in South India and Kashmir from 800 to 1300 CE. In the book she also writes about Abhinav Gupta, who was a Shaiv philosopher and hailed from Kashmir. She also writes about Shaiv sect and Tanta Vidya in Kashmir. All these facts show that the writer knows about Kashmir well and there is a deliberate attempt to distort the facts to benefit anti-India forces.
However, three weeks have passed since the registration of the complaint, there is no response from the Police or the publisher.
RSS swayamsevaks in Delhi conducted door-to-door campaign from November 24 to December 4 to ensure 100 per cent polling on December 4. Like many other organisations or agencies including the Election Commission, the Sangh has also been worried over the declining vote percentage during elections. Therefore, the RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat, in his Vijayadashami speech from Nagpur on October 13 exhorted the swayamsevaks to educate the society for casting their vote in the elections. Following this call, the swayamsevaks conducted similar awareness campaigns in some other states also and the campaign will continue during the Lok Sabha elections too. In, Delhi the swayamsevaks tried to contact each and every house with a request to vote on December 4. The swayamsevaks did not seek vote for any particular political party. They only requested the voters to positively cast their vote on polling day i.e December 4 in Delhi. It is must for strengthening the democracy.
Amid reports of growing crimes against women and also emerging new threats, Chetna, a unit of Bharatiya Stree Shakti, organised a workshop in Delhi on November 21 to prepare the women to face the new challenges of life. According to Dr Indu Aneja, president of Chenta and a leading psychologist, the prime objective of the workshop was to explore the self within oneself and understand the environment better. The life skills were broadly divided into three general categories—social skills, thinking skills and emotional skills.
The workshop explained the abilities for adoptive and positive behaviour that enables individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. “Life skills empower adolescents for livelihood and to face their daily challenges. Effective acquisition of life skills can influence the way one feels about once self and others, and can enhance one’s productivity, efficiency, self esteem and self confidence. Life skills can also provide the space to improve interpersonal relations,” explained Dr Aneja in her introductory remarks. She also talked about life skills, self-awareness and empathy, creative thinking and critical thinking, Decision making and problem solving, effective communication and interpersonal relationship, coping with emotions and stress and facilitation skills and training methodologies through different activities and examples. The awareness of an RSS swayamsevak, Dhaneesh Krishnan, saved the lives of three linemen from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The incident took place in Pathanamthitta, in front of the Muthoot Hospital, when the workers Aji M Varghese, Anil Kumar and Rajeev were struck by an electric current, which gave them a shock. It was Aji who first got the shock. In a bid to rescue their colleague, the other two workers were afflicted too. Aji even lost balance, where he was seen dangling upside down, bleeding profusely from the mouth. In spite of the situation being so critical, however, the onlookers, who had gathered at the spot, did nothing to save the linemen. It was at this critical juncture that Dhaneesh, an employee of the Muthoot Hospital, swung into action. Even though he was dissuaded from going ahead with his life rescue mission, Dhaneesh’s presence of mind did not deter him from swinging into action, that too risking his own life. The three were rescued using a rope. By then the fire-force reached the spot and hastened the rescue work. Dhaneesh and the three linemen are safe.
While some parts of Uttar Pradesh are witnessing communal riots, the RSS activists presented a good example of Hindu-Muslim unity by extending help in the wedding of grand daughter of Colonel Nizamuddin, the once trusted colleague of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Col Nizamuddin was in Netaji’s Azad Hind Fauz from 1943 to 45. Presently he lives in Dhakwa of Mubarakpur in Uttar Pradesh. He was facing hardship for the marriage of his granddaughter scheduled for November 13. A Muslim women Foundation of Varanasi appealed to the philanthropists to help the family of freedom fighter. But none except the RSS workers responded to their appeal. On initiative of senior RSS Pracharak Shri Indresh Kumar two activists visited the house of Col Nizamuddin and offered some cash and chunri for the bride besides some gifts. Commenting on this gesture Akram, son of Col Nizamuddin said their family was overwhelmed by this initiative and honour from RSS and Muslim Rashtriya Manch.
It was a memorable and inspiring time for the students of TAPAS, when they had an interaction with Magsaysay awardee Dr Harish Hande at Rahtrotthana Parishat in Bengaluru on December 1 morning. Tapas is a nation-building initiative in the field of education by Rashtrotthana Parishat. It focuses on enabling learning to the brightest among the needy sections of the society, with the broader goal of empowering them as growth drivers. Tapas select 30-40 most promising boys, presently studying in Class X and will offer them free PU education and IIT-JEE training.
Compensation for minority youth
Indraprastha Vishwa Hindu Parishad on November 30 sent a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Shri V S Sampath seeking action against ruling Congress Party for Union Cabinet decision clearing a policy to provide compensation to minority youth ‘falsely implicated in terror cases’. In a letter, State secretary general Shri Satyendra Mohan said free, fair and speedy trial and compensation for damages is the right of every citizen, why it is being given to Muslims only. This decision of the Union Cabinet on November 28, just three day before polling in Rajasthan and 6 day before polling in Delhi is a pre-poll exploitive stunt meant to influence the minority community to attract voters. The letter said religion based compensation would divide the country.
BMS leader PT Rao passes away
Senior BMS worker and National Committee member P Thrivikrama Rao passed away on November 27 at Kochi following a massive heart attack. BMS president Shri CK Sajinarayanan, joint organising secretary Shri B Surendran, secretary Shri S Durairaj, Prant Sanghachalak Shri PEB Menon, and trade union leaders paid tribute to the departed soul. Rao joined the RSS in his childhood and was jailed during Emergency for 11 months. As an employee of UCO Bank he became BMS worker as founding member of Kerala Pradesh Bank Workers Organisation.
