In emergency, local residents helped a lot

In Gauri village, 5,000 people received food and shelter

No matter how helpless the people might be feeling during the tragedy in Uttarakhand, it is the local people who helped the affected and received praise from all pilgrims. From Bhagirathi to Maneri, or from Bhatwari to Harsil, it is the locals who came forward to help the stranded people. Near Gaurikund, locals from Gouri village provided food and shelter to 5,000 people, despite running out of rations within a few days.

100 get life, then sacrificed themselves

The tale of a young villager from village Dopgaon, Budhi Bhatt, during the Uttarakhand crisis will be written in golden letters. This brave lad saved the lives of over a hundred people from the Songanga river and ultimately was swallowed up by the raging river after making sure all people had crossed to safety. What heartrending story is this? These and other such tales of valour have become legendary.

Women prepared food for the affected people

In Chamba (Tehri), Ghansali, Chinyali Saur, Garampani (Uttarkashi) and along the Badrinath highway, in a small village called Pursari, women fed the stranded pilgrims leaving all their other work aside. This went on for a few days.
