87th anniversary of Tarun Bharat

NAGPUR: “If you want to bring change in your favour, you be the change,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat here on July 25.
He was addressing the closely packed audience gathered at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall to commemorate the 87th anniversary of famous Marathi daily Tarun Bharat published from Nagpur since 1926. Managing Editor of IBN 7 news channel Shri Ashutosh, was the guest of honour on the occasion. Chairman of Shri Narakesari Prakashan, which brings out Tarun Bharat, Dr Vilas Dangre, Managing Director Shri Vishwas Pathak and Executive Editor Gajanan Nimdeo also shared the dais.
Stressing the role of media and newspapers in awakening the masses, the RSS chief praised Tarun Bharat for devoting itself to this mission since its first issue. “Tarun Bharat taught the people how to use the power of discrimination”, he said praising the contribution of all its editors who held the torch burning bright with the might of their pen in these 87 years.
Tarun Bharat, Shri Bhagwat said, “is not just another newspaper, but is a thought that inspires everybody in the society”. Shri Bhagwat acknowledged that Tarun Bharat has fulfilled its responsibility as a powerful medium of social change and awakening by presenting balanced news and views on the topical issues. This flame of dispassionately serving the society and inculcating positive thoughts in the social psyche continues to burn even today’s period of swift changes resulting from the accelerated process of globalisa-tion, information explosion and market-driven economic forces, the RSS chief added.
Stating that all that is old is not always gold and acceptable; and all that is new is all acceptable, the RSS chief called for applying discrimination in accepting new trends and values coming out of globalisation that bode well for the society and the country. “The society must accept only good things from globalisation and leave out that are not required,” he said.
In his speech Shri Ashutosh traced the changing profile of the Indian society due to impact of globalisation, technological innovations, information explosion through internet and mobile and growing aspiration and outspoken social groups that are determined to remove bad elements from our social and national life.
Stating that in this crucial and decisive hour of the nation, media has emerged as a powerful tool that has brought the change in the society changing its time and space both. The economic reforms have taken India to the centre stage of the world politics and the country is being viewed as a powerful nation and second fastest growing economy. But, the political system has not lived up to this change and that is more lamenting situation, he said. Recalling the sayings and observations of Swami Vivekananda, Shri Ashutosh said we must remove the fear of the new and face the change boldly if we have to survive and make our nation a world leader.
Earlier, a short documentary on the journey of Tarun Bharat was screened. All the living former editors including MG Vaidya, DB alias Mamasaheb Ghumre, LT Joshi, Wamanrao Telang and Sudhir Pathak were felicitated.
