Leading saints meet President Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan

The President was also apprised of the Dharma Sansad resolutions on cow and Ganga protection, Hindu terrorism, women security, alarming fall in Hindu demography after Independence and plight of temples at the hands of ‘secular’ governments

A high level delegation of leading saints and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders called on the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapatai Bhavan in New Delhi on May 30. The delegation urged him to resolve the Ramjanmabhoomi issue by way of a law in Parliament. The saints also apprised the President of the resolutions passed by 10,000 satins at the Dharma Sansad held during Prayag Kumbha, on cow and Ganga protection, Hindu terrorism, women security, alarming fall in Hindu demography and plight of temples at the hands of ‘secular’ governments in different states.

-The President heared the saints patiently and assured them to speak to the Prime Minister on all the demands raised by them. The meeting lasted for about 25 minutes. The saints presented the President picture of the proposed Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, an idol of Lord Ganesha and a chunri of Goddesses Bhagwat. The President was also presented a detailed memorandum highlighting all the demands.

The delegation, led by Swami Dayananda Saraswati of Arsh Gurukulam, Coimbatore, included Swami Satyamitrananda Giri of Bharat Mata Mandir, Haridwar, Jagadguru Madhvacharya Swami Vishveshwara Teertha Maharaj of Pejawar Math, president of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Turst Mahant Nrityagopal Das from Ayodhya, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vishveshwarananda Maharaj from Sannyas Ashram Mumbai and Surat Giri Bangla Haridwar, Swami Chinmaya-nanda, Swami Parmatmananda from Acharya Sabha, VHP patron Shri Ashok Singhal and VHP general secretary Shri Champat Rai.

The delegation urged the President that on the basis of Allahabad High Court verdict based on archaeological and geophysical evidence it is proved beyond any doubt that the disputed site is the birthplace of Lord Ram, the disputed structure was constructed by Babar, and built against the tenets of Islam, and the disputed structure was constructed on the site of old structure (Hindu Shrine/Temple) after demolition of the same. In the light of these facts the President was requested to take the initiative to persuade the Muslim community to honour the Court verdict and voluntarily hand over Sri Ram Janmabhoomi shrine to Hindus.

The President was also requested to ask the Government of India to honour its commitment that “…if the question referred is answered in the affirmative …government action will be in support of the wishes of the Hindu community…”. Since it has now been proved by the Court with sufficient evidences the government must keep its words. Another option suggested to the President was to solve the issue by way of a law of Parliament. The proposed legislation should ensure that no new mosque or Islamic Centre or Islamic Monument would be built within the cultural/scriptural boundaries of Ayodhya.

Apart from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi issue, the President was apprised of the feelings of the saints on various important issues confronting the nation. The first of them was cow protection. The President was urged to take the steps for preserving and improving the breeds and prohibiting the slaughter of cows and calves and other milch and draught cattle. A request was also made on restoration of National River status to Ganga for its clean and uninterrupted flow.

The saints expressed concern over the insult of Hindus using the terms like Hindu terror. They said this word is being used as a weapon to attract the Muslim votes. The saints demanded removal of Union Home Minister for false allegations against Hindus.

On the issue of women safety, the saints stressed the need on teaching ethics at all levels of education, ban on undignified depiction of women in media, implementation of Justice  Verma Committee recommendations (including the recommendations pertaining to politicians), capital punishment to rapists, 16 years as the age for a major.

Expressing concern over the alarming fall in Hindu demography after Independence, the saints demanded a Common Civil Code to address the issue of the country’s demography. They urged the Government to effectively address the issue of infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims into Bharat.

On the plight of Hindu temples at the hands of ‘secular’ governments in different parts of the country the saints said the properties and assets attached to the temples prior to their Government appropriation should be restored to Hindus.
