With active support of over 150 organisations
Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) along with more than 150 organisations and leaders of traders, small industries, house-hold manufacturers, traditional self-employed people, transporters, farmers, rural artisans, vendors, hawkers, workers etc. came together on May 7 in New Delhi against permission by the UPA government to FDI in multi-brand retail trade. They said it would enable the MNCs to capture world’s most diversified Indian market and monopolise existing purchase and sale system thereby rendering crores of Indians out of jobs and occupations. They have declared a war against such anti-people policies of the UPA. It will continue till the UPA regime is thrown out and FDI in retail trade is prohibited.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Shri Arun Jaitley said the UPA Government wants to transfer power to Europe and sell off Indian market to China. Later on, India will become the nation of sales boys and sales girls. He said the government’s justification of saving the wastage through better storage infrastructure is baseless. Even in USA where big retails operate, the wastage is nearly 40 per cent. The government says the FDI in retail will do away with middle men, but the irony is that Wal-Mart is the biggest middleman.
BJP's national general secretary Shri Muralidhar Rao said any attempt supporting FDI in retail is an attempt for destroying the self-dependence of millions. He said the decision to implement FDI in multi-brand retail is a clear conspiracy of transferring the agriculture sector from farmers to the hands of large corporates and trade from millions of small traders to big multi-national retail companies. Eminent thinker Shri S Gurumurthy said the Congress would not come back to power in the Centre and thereby FDI sponsored companies won’t be in India for long. (FOC)
