“DEMONIC anti-social mentality and elements can be eliminated with the help of an organised society. The legendary Goddess Durga is the symbol of this organised power and strength. The time has come today for the womenfolk to rise to the occasion by assuming the role of Durga to get rid of all the demonic and evil forces,” said Rashtra Sevika Samiti Pramukh Sanchalika Vandaniya Shantakka in Nagpur recently.
She was speaking at the Vijayadashmi function of the Samiti on Navratri festival. Dr Sharad Nimbalkar, former Vice-Chancellor of Dr Punjabrao Agriculture University was the chief guest. Besides, Samiti’s Vidarbha Prant Karyawahika Sulbha Gaud and Nagpur Vibhag Karyawahika Karuna Sathe were also seated on the dais.
Shantakka Tai, drawing the attention of the audience towards the unwanted image of women being created in the society at present, criticised this trend of looking at the fair sex members as ‘consumer product’. She held the women responsible to certain extent for this situation.
Chief Guest Dr Sharad Nimbalkar said that it was necessary to stop atrocities against women. He especially referred to growing trend of female feticide in spite of the presence of a strong law. He stressed the need to educate women in this regard. Earlier, Smita Pattarkine introduced the guests while Medha Nandedkar conducted the programme. The sevikas presented various physical drills and yogasanas.  —Virag Pachpore
