Saints demand concrete action plan for protection of Ganga
Senior saints of the country have demanded a concrete action plan for ensuring free and minimum flow in the Ganga. They told the Central government to enact a law in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament to this effect. Failing which, they warned, the saints would be compelled to launch a decisive battle for the Ganga.
The saints issued this warning at the Sant Uchchadhikar Samiti meeting of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad held in Haridwar from June 19 to 20. About a hundred senior saints from different parts of the country attended the meeting. Prominent among them were Shankaracharya Swami Vasud-evananda Saraswati, Pejawar Swami Shri Vishvesh Teertha, Swami Rambhadracharya, Swami Ramdharacharya, Swami Yuvacharya Shyamasharan, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, Swami Govind Dev Giri, Swami Vishnupuri, etc. the VHP leaders including Shri Ashok Singhal, working president Dr Pravin Togadia, general secretary Shri Champat Rai, general secretary (organisation) Shri Dinesh Chandra and others also attended the meeting.
About the Ganga the saints also told the Central government to align with the commitment given by the British Government to Pt Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916. Demanding reconstitution of the Ganga Basin Authority, the saints said scientists, environmentalists, saints and social activists should also be included in the Authority.
In a separate resolution on Sri Ramjanmabhoomi, the meeting urged the saints to conduct countrywide mass awakening for building Sri Ram temple in Ayodhya. This awareness campaign will be conducted before the beginning of the Poorna Kumbha in Prayag in January 2013. The saints also reiterated their demand to hand-over the entire land to the Hindus by enacting a law in the Parliament.
In the beginning of the meeting, Shri Champat Rai explained the agenda of the meeting. He said corruption could not be curbed without building people of high character. He said the identity of India has been of a spiritual state and not a secular one, as being said by a group of people.
