“The Prime duty of our Planning Commission appears to be killing the traditional village entrepreneurship in the name of macro economy. The things that used to be manufactured by village blacksmiths too are now being made by the industrial giants like the Tata and the Jindal. This over mechanisation is increasing unemployment and reducing purchasing power of majority of the population. This is also adversely affecting our economy. After Europe and America, we too are heading towards a serious economic crisis. There is a need to take timely steps to avert it,” said noted Swadeshi thinker Prof Bhagwati Prakash Sharma. He was delivering second Nanaji Memorial Lecture in New Delhi on May 18. Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiyari presided over the function.
Coming down heavily on the wrong policies formulated by the Planning Commission, Prof Sharma said 30-35 people sitting in AC rooms cannot decided the fate of 120 crore people. Referring to the sustainable rural development model evolved by Nanaji he said wrong policies of the government are hindering balanced development in the country. “It is due to the wrong policies of the government that the largest black money stored in foreign tax heavens belong to Indians. It is again the wrong developmental model, which is responsible for the fast decline in the GDP growth,” he said. He emphasised that the people and not the Planning Commission, should decide the policies required at tehsil and district level.
Remembering multifaceted personality of Nanaji, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiyari said Nanaji thought for all, even for the animals. “Nanaji has proved that it requires balanced thinking for balanced growth,” he added.
