NEWS ROUND-UP-1

Veteran VHP leader Shri Ashok Singhal has alleged that the government is hatching a conspiracy to divide the historic Benaras Hindu University. “It is an onslaught on the feelings of Mahamana Malaviya who founded the University. There is no harm in setting up the IIT here but it should be done without dividing the University. There is no harm in upgrading the Technological Institute into an IIT but the other moveable and immovable property should remain with the BHU only,” Shri Singhal said addressing a meeting in Benaras on March 24. The meeting was organised under the banner of Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya Bachao Samiti. Shri Singhal made it clear that the entire university including the IIT should be governed by the Vice Chancellor only.

Former Union Law Minister and national president of Janata Party Dr Subramanian Swamy said no law aimed at dividing the BHU would be allowed to be passed. Even if the government passes the law, it will be stalled through the court. He called upon the students and intellectuals to get untied to fight for the existence of the University. He said the University has been excellently working as per all norms and it needs to be upgraded with new courses.

The Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya Bachao Samiti also made it clear that they are not against the setting up of IIT but they want that it should be governed through the VC of BHU and the VC should be head of the IIT. The government may also set the IIT at any other place.
