MUMBAI. The city has been attacked ten times in the past decade. So the media and the politicians have well-rehearsed stories and statements. The resilience of the city has been parroted ad nauseum, as if people have a choice. The ‘for namesake’ prime minister and the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi paid the customary visit. Conveniently nobody reminded Manmohan Singh that he had promised to make a Shanghai out of Mumbai nearly a decade ago. The TV anchors asked all questions to all kinds of ‘experts’ on the latest blast, wanting to solve the case then and there.
Amid all this cacophony the in-house headline maniac Digvijay Singh did his bit. He, in an apparent attempt to confuse the investigating agencies and thereby allow the terrorists time to clear their tracks, suggested that the nationalist organisation RSS was behind the blasts. He was even ‘aware’ of the factories where bombs were being made he said. Digvijay Singh has now become the biggest shield for Islamic terrorists active in India. He is their guardian in the political circles and he is close to Sonia Gandhi. The links are there for all to see. He has to mention the so-called Hindu terror whenever there is evidence of terror activities in the name of Islam.
A report in the latest issue of Sunday Guardian, quoting Home Ministry sources said that one particular mobile number, originating from Azamgarh, came alive before and after the Varanasi blast(2006), the blast outside Delhi High Court and now this series of blasts. This number has also received calls from Saudi Arabia and Dubai. But the investigative agencies have not been able to track down the owner of the phone or locate it. Will the Home Minister of India answer this inefficiency? Or is it that the owner of the phone is someone so powerful enough that he cannot be touched? Dawood Ibrahim is a son of Azamgarh.
The political will to take on the anti-nationals has considerably weakened under the UPA; both I and II. From the position that terrorism has no religion, the Congress-led coalition has moved to communalising terror, giving it a religious colour and an escape route for terror apologists. At will the terrorists have struck around the country, but the government has been unable to solve them or punish the guilty. Even court verdicts are waiting implementation while the government is pusillanimous over the possible hurt it will do the party’s minority appeasement policies. Unfortunately for the first time in Indian history we have a Union Cabinet in which the patriotism of many individuals is being widely suspected.
The Home Minister P Chidambaram who meets the press regularly and briefs them about his ministry’s ‘achievements’ has suddenly gone underground. He is not to be seen or heard. The coordination between the various intelligence and investigative agencies of the government appears to be the lowest ever, ridden with mutual distrust and political manipulation.
Every time there is a terror attack, the government jumps from its seat to assure that talks with Pakistan would go on, as if that is the most important issue. Pakistan is engaging India in dialogue on one side and using the ISI to wage a proxy war. There is no dearth of Pakistan supporters in India, in the pseudo intellectual-secular-seminar circle. People like Mani Shankar Aiyer, senior journalists and academicians. The foreign affairs ministry is largely steered by the opinion of this vocal coterie.
A quick trial and visible handing out of justice is what the Indians are demanding. This would not only show India as a strong nation it would also act as a deterrent. Kasab, Afzal and others like them are enjoying hospitality and security at tax payer’s expense. The pace in which the cases and appeals are going, it seems they would live long enough to get a normal death from old age. There was a time when India used to talk about reclaiming PoK. Now even that nominal sound is not heard. Under the UPA, the government is receding from the political, geographical and moral upper hand it had over Kashmir. There is no hope at all that this prime minister or this government would act. That hope evaporated long back. The only expectation is that 2014 should come fast so that this government can be voted out.
