A Report CPM rocked by scandals

IT is an irony, for the CPM that fought violent battles against Self-Financing Engg/Medical Colleges, to be itself, mired in a scandal involving a Self Financing College (SFC) owned by it.

For several decades students from Kerala were forced to go to other states for Medical and Engineering education, since CPM, vehemently opposed SFCs. But it is a tragedy that, the same CPM, allowed plus two schools and SF Engg/Med Colleges during its years in office.

The CPM and DYFI fought violent battles against the CPM-expelled MV Raghavan’s Pariyaram Medical college in Kannur. Five DYFI cadres were shot dead by police when they tried to attack MV Raghavan, who was a minister in the Congress led UDF.

During the 2006-11 tenure of the CPM rule, they took over the co-operative run Pariyaram Medical College through booth capturing, misusing police and terrorising anti-CPM voters. CPM’s MV Jayarajan became President, unseating MV Raghavan.

Immediately after the Congress led UDF came to power, reports came that children of Muslim League Education Minister Abdu Rabb, Health Minister Adoor Prakash secured Post Graduate (PG) seats in the Pariyaram Medical College reportedly paying Rs 85 lakh each. Reports also came that DYFI treasurer VV Rameshan paid Rs 50 lakh for an MBBS seat for his daughter. Following the media disclosures, both ministers refused the seats allotted to their children. Rameshan gave lame excuses that the amount was given by his brother- in-law in the Gulf. But how can a person who is just a shop-assistant in a super market in the Gulf give such a huge amount is anybody’s question.

Anyway rattled by this scandal the DYFI expelled Rameshan and the seat was denied to his daughter. He has also been demoted in the CPM.

Reports have also came that the Pariyaram Medical College is not giving 50 per cent seats in MBBS and PG to meritorious students as per Government and Supreme Court’s norms. All MBBS seats are sold for Rs 50 lakh and PG seats for Rs 85 lakh to Rs one crore. The DYFI martyrs who died of police bullets in Koothuparambu may be cursing from their graves for the wasted sacrifice!

It is another irony, that Kerala, a highly literate State is also the land of sex scandals involving minor girls, suicides, murders, rapes and fraudulent finance and money chain mafias.

Recently a sex mafia involving a fourteen year old girl came to light. She was introduced into the trade by her father who himself raped her and presented her to more than 100 people in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Recently the Crime Branch arrested two CPM leaders of Ernakulam District, Thomas Varghese and KM Eldo for taking the girl to Thiruvananthapuram and raping her .Hit by the sex-storm, the CPM expelled them. The 14 year old girl, raped by 100 men is now three months pregnant! Earlier CPM leaders including a former Mayor were involved in the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex scandal.

The third and lethal bomb exploded against the CPM, when it had to expel former Kannur District Secretary of the CPM and right hand of Pinarayi Vijayan, P Sasi, from the party on grounds of moral turpitude.

The arrogant P Sasi, had misbehaved with the wife of a DYFI leader at a nature cure centre in Neeleswaram, in Kasargod District in May 2010. The girl, also an employee of CPM paper Deshabhimani was constantly threatened by phone with murder by Sasi, if she lets the matter out. The girl and her husband complained to the State Committee of the CPM. Although the Pinarayi group and Kannur lobby tried to protect him, VS Achuthanandan’s intervention led to his removal from Kannur District. Secretaryship. The party covered it up by saying that he was given leave for medical treatment. VS Achuthanandan’s made sarcastic comments against his disease, angering Pinarayi.

Now based on an enquiry, CPM has finally expelled P Sasi, which is a great blow to Kannur lobby of Pinarayi Vijayan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and the three Jayarajans. The expulsion has also been ratified by the politburo. VS Achuthanandan’s has welcomed the expulsion and has said that, had it been done prior to assembly polls, LDF would have won! A dig at arch-rival Pinarayi!

With reports coming of Pinarayi Vijayan’s role in denying seat to VS Achuthanandan, the CPM is in further deep crisis.

To create smokescreen from these scandals, the CPM/DYFI/SFI organised violent agitations against Church/Muslim Self Financing Colleges which refuse to give 50 per cent seats to merit allotters forgetting that its own, Pariyaram Medical College is selling merit seats at rates ranging from Rs 50 lakh to one crore. Double talk, is another name of CPM!
