PETER James’ Dead Like You is the 6th in the series of detective Roy grace. This time Roy Grace is pursuing ‘Shoe Man.’ The serial rapist-murderer had escaped a decade ago, after claiming five victims and seems to have resurfaced. He has already attacked and raped four women, taking their shoes away. But the technology and forensics have improved and Roy has a huge stake, for he is about to marry his girlfriend, who is pregnant with his child. His wife had disappeared (in the previous book). Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, who worked on the original case, is almost certain that it is the return of the shoe man. The book also gives one more viable suspect, each with a skill or occupation that allows them access to a steady stream of potential victims. In a tight written story, that reveals a lot of the way the police works, James takes the reader to the climax, with many a gasps and exclamations. A one-sitting reading crime thriller.-VN
