FOLLOWING the tradition of last 32 years the Dakshin Bengal unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad organised a sewa shivir for the service of the pilgrims visiting the Gangasagar. This year the camps were held at two places-Outram Ghat (Kolkata) and Ganga Sagar Island. There was arrangement for meal, tiffin, tea, snacks, dry ration, firewood, post, telephone, medical treatment with ambulance etc. round the clock at both the camps. Nearly 500 persons at Outram Ghat and 2,500 persons at Sagar Island camp can stay at a time. These camps serve nearly 50,000 – 80,000 pilgrims every day.
The Outram Ghat camp was inaugurated on January 10. Many distinguished persons, businessman, industrialists and social workers attended the function. Shri Nand Lal Lohia welcomed the gathering and highlighted the various sewa activities being carried out by the VHP in West Bengal as well as all over India. He also highlighted the sewa shivir organised every year for the pilgrims of Ganga Sagar and Ram Kali near Malda. Shri Adwait Charan Dutta highlighted the present scenario of the country and emphasised the greater role of the Hindus to save it from the onslaught from various fronts. (FOC)
