THIS autobiography by the author reveals his ability to tackle different situations, particularly those involving communal and religious elements and which earned him the prestigious President’s Award for Meritorious Service in 2000.
Here he narrates incidents from his life as a police officer – when during the procession of Vinayak idols during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival through the streets where a mosque stands and which is considered unsafe for the situation could explode into a communal conflict, the author as DIG of Villupuram, helps to save the situation by suggesting that the mosque be closed by 2 p.m. and the Muslims would have to leave the place. What is more, he arranges for the Muslim leaders to greet the processionists among shouts of ‘Hindu-Muslim Bhai-Bhai” renting the air.
The book is replete with many such anecdotes. -MG
