International conference on Saraswati River in Kurukshetra

A three-day international conference on Saraswati River was organised at Dr Radhakrishnan Sadan in Kurukshetra from November 20 to 22. Over fifty delegates from all over the country and abroad participated in the conference. Most of the delegates assembled in Kurukshetra in the night of November 19. On November 20 they first visited the sites of Saraswati River in and around Kurukshetra and deliberated on their observations on November 21 and 22 at the conference.

Pujya Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Swami Jayendra Saraswati stayed in the conference all the three days. On the first day, he had snanam in the newly built Saraswati Sarovar at Adi Badri and after puja/bhiksha proceeded to Chandigarh Temple where he spent the night. On the following two days, he blessed the conference by his gracious presence and aashirvachan. Pujya Swami Omanand Maharaj of Shukratal also bestowed his blessings on the conference on the opening day.

On the first day, Captain (Retd) Ajay Singh Yadav, Irrigation and Finance Minister of Haryana, was the chief guest and he was so convinced and impressed by the proceedings of the conference that immediately after arrival at Chandigarh, he announced full support of the state government to the Saraswati River revival project and sanctioned a sum of Rs. 10.50 crore for revival of this project. The function was presided over by Lt Gen (Retd) DS Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University. He was conferred the title of “Saraswati Putra” by Pujya Shankaracharya.

On the second day, Shri KN Srivastava, IAS and Director General of Archaeological Survey of India, assured full support to the Saraswati project. The function was presided over by Shri HS Hooda, Advocate General of Haryana. The auditorium remained packed on both the days.

A volume containing the papers presented by scholars/scientists was released on this occasion and all such scholars and scientists were presented a memento each by the Sansthan and were blessed by Pujya Shankaracharya.
