RSS National Executive Member and senior Pracharak Shri Indresh Kumar appealed to the tourists visiting the hill areas to visit as paryavaran mitra (environment friend) and not just a tourist and then find the difference in the environment there. He was speaking at a seminar organised by Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad on protection of the Ganga in Dehradun on November 13. He also suggested to constitute a committee comprising of environmental experts and scientists at national and State level. Swami Chidanand Muni Saraswati, noted environmentalist Prof. GD Agrawal, Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad president Shri Dayadhar Joshi, vice president Shri Prem Barakoti, director of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Foundation Shri Tarun Vijay and many other distinguished people were also present on the occasion.
Shri Indresh Kumar pointed out that around 1.9 crore people work in government sector but around 9.3 crore people get employment through pilgrimage. “By protecting the Ganga we are not only protecting people but also saving their jobs, which they will lose in case of extinction of the Ganga River. Ganga is the symbol of Indian culture and mostly all the holy cities are situated across the Ganga. It not only irrigates Uttarakhand but also Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal land, so all four state residents should take a pledge to contribute their part in saving the river Ganga,” he added.
Noted environmentalist Prof. GD Agrawal said every question related to the river Ganga is directly related to the Indian culture and beliefs. Ganga ought to be looked upon as religious entity instead of water reservoir.
