The concept of God affects every human being in some way or the other, to some extent if not more. We believe in Him and have faith in Him. We fear, adore, pray and worship him, yet we do not know who or what He actually is. This book tries to reveal what God is and what are His attributes and influences. In the process, it shows that whatever has to happen in the universe in future, including whatever has to happen in one’s life, is predestined by Him and is unchangeable. After the revelation of God, it takes the reader through an analysis of some nuclear beliefs of major theistic religions of the world so that the truth in the beliefs can be seen.
The topics concerned in the book include philosophy, religion and physics – specifically metaphysics, determinism, philosophy of religion, philosophical theology, philosophy of physics and quantum mechanics. It takes the reader to God through steps. In the beginning the author presents short summaries of what the eight major theistic religions of the world – Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism and Zoroastrianism – say about God with the epithets added to Him by the majority of theists of the world because He is God not of any particular religion but of all religions. There happen to be some beliefs that lie at the core of every religion because they play a vital role in its propagation and sustenance and also because they differentiate one from the other religions. For example, many followers believe about certain persons, especially for the propagators of their religion, that they were close to or had contact with God; were his messengers, relatives or representatives, or were His embodiment or incarnation. It also talks about the key religious books that contain His words, orders or will and the central religious beliefs about the path and ways of realising God. The concept of God provides a living sap to theistic religions. Lastly the author discusses briefly the worth that will be left with these religions after letting know about God, His attributes, the truth behind the claims made by some persons at knowing Him or being His representative or incarnation, and the futility of paths and ways proposed by them for realising Him. To let the reader know about God, destiny has been included.
Through human history, different people have believed in destiny to different extents. Most people have had a keen desire to know their future, though future is predestined and unchangeable. All that happens (happened in the past, is happening at present and will happen in the future) in the universe lies in the ambit of destiny – is predestined as well as inevitable.
In the universe, everything happens according to it, or every phenomenon, event or happening that takes place in the universe, is determined, described, directed, organised or governed by God. Therefore God is one who governs Nature or is the supreme ruler of the universe rightly termed Almighty, omnipotent and Supreme Being. Every bit of us and our life is decided by God. Our nature, personality, capabilities, weaknesses, achievements and failures and even our imaginations, decisions, feelings and so on are determined or decided by God who decides not only our successes and failures but also our post-success vainglory and post-failure sadness. Destiny torments us with failure, even if we work according to its directions. It awards us with the fruits of success on the paths that it itself makes us travel. It punishes us for the crime for which it itself is responsible. It blesses us with applause for the virtuous deeds it destines for us.
