Silchar, Sept 15: The Central Committee of Azad Hind Volunteers took out Netaji Rath from Silchar via Moirang for Delhi via Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on August 23. The main object of the mission was to compel the UPA government to table the Mukherjee Commission Report in the Parliament for discussion. Paritosh Paul Chowdhury, chairman of Azad Hind Volunteers, recalled that the earlier reports of Khosla Commission and Shahnawaz Committee were rejected by the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai. Mukherjee Inquiry Commission report which was submitted to the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in 2006 was also rejected by the government.
Shri Paul Chowdhury revealed that Manoj Mukherjee of the Commission visited Taihoku and met the Mayor of the town who affirmed to him that there was no plain crash in 1945 and Netaji had not died in the crash. Therefore, the ashes preserved in Renkoji Temple in Japan have no connection with Netaji, he added. Shri Paul Chowdhury said that their objective behind Delhi Chalo is to demand publication of Mukherjee Commission report.
Shri Paul Chowdhury who briefed the press conference before leaving for Delhi said that after the Quit India Movement, there was no resistance against the British except from Azad Hind Fauj. The moment the message from Azad Hind reached Red Fort, the navy revolted. The airforce prepared itself for battle. Army too was galvanised to revolt. The British realised it was difficult to stand before the armed rebellion of Azad Hind Fauj. The British had to quit. Shri Chowdhury said that India got Independence mainly due to the efforts of Netaji. ?Our march to Delhi is to bring to fore all these facts before the nation and to expose the conspiracy at the national and international levels against Netaji to dwarf his role in the Independence of the country?, pointed out Shri Paul Chowdhury.
