CHANDIGARH: While the race for Republicans and Democrats is heating up in US, the contest at Panjab University reached its logical end on September 12 with the SOPU-ABVP-HPSU alliance sweeping the Punjab University Students? Council (PUSC) elections. The Union bagged all the four seats. The other two alliances?PUSU-NSUI and INSO-SOI and INSO-SOI?finished to the third position. Shri Sahil Nanda (SOPU) was declared president. He defeated Jashandeep Singh Randhawa of PUSU-NSUI alliance by 715 votes. Parul Choudhary (ABVP) of political science department was elected vice-president. She garnered 2,569 votes and defeated Navjot Sharma of PUSU by 571 votes. Prashant Sharma (ABVP) became the general secretary with 2,351 votes. He defeated Gaurav Behl of PUSU alliance which got 1,925 votes. Deepak Thakur (SOPU) of UILS was declared joint secretary with 3,090 votes. He defeated Kuldeep Singh by 655 votes. (FOC)
