Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) strongly condemned the serial blasts that rocked Bangalore and Ahmedabad recently. In a press statement ABVP general secretary Shri Suresh Bhatt expressed deep shock at the incident and said the perpetrators were targeting the peace and harmony of the country. He said the terrorists were emboldened by the soft attitude of the Centre towards them to appease vote bank politics. The government went to the extent of accepting the support of a party like PDP in Jammu & Kashmir, which sought the withdrawal of the Army from the state and also honoured Pakistani currency. ?When politics has reached such abysmal levels, these things are bound to happen,? he added.

He also blamed incompetent anti-terror mechanism for the serial blasts. ?This is a very serious incident. It seems that our anti-terrorist legal framework has loopholes. It also seems that the kind of activities to stop terrorists have not being implemented properly. ?There are two serial blasts in two days and that is not an ordinary thing. The intelligence agencies can stop this,? he said. While emphasising the need for a strong anti-terrorist Act, he said there was a strong question mark on the national commitment against terrorists. The Government must stop soft-pedaling to deal terrorism, he added.

Expressing sympathies with those affected by the serial explosions, Shri Bhatt said it was unfortunate that despite a series of such attacks, the government and the intelligence agencies are unable to crack down on those responsible for these heinous crimes.
