“There should be a national debate across the country for introduction of Uniform Civil Code if one really wants actual welfare of the Muslim community. The Supreme Court has insisted for this on several occasions. To support this cause religious leaders of the minority community are also coming forward now?, said Shri Rajnath Singh, national president of the BJP, while inaugurating the two-day national executive of the BJP minority morcha in Delhi on July 28.

The BJP chief said that the present UPA government is not the true well-wisher of the minority community; instead of doing the actual welfare of the poor sections of minority community, the UPA government is giving new dimensions to divisive politics for narrow short-term political considerations. After ruling the country for more than forty-five years, the Congress-led so-called secular government is now saying that the situation of Muslims is pathetic and requires to be judged through Sachar Committee, this shows who is responsible for the backwardness of the minority community. He added that the issue of Muslim reservation and head count in armed forces and other such measures by the Congress and self-styled secular parties are in reality giving new and fatal definitions to the national polity.

Speaking on the occasion minority morcha president Shahanawaz Hussain criticised the UPA government for creating only committees for the minorities without bearing any fruits for the welfare of the community. He said that the UPA had formed three committees namely Standing Committee of National Monitoring for Minorities Education, National Commission for Minorities Education and Sachar Committee, out of which only the Sachar Committee has given its report and nobody knows about the findings of the other committees. He asked Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh if his government is not able to produce the reports of the committees even after three years, how can the Muslims expect welfare from him? He also criticised the UPA government for providing separate bank loans for the community, which is not in good taste. He exhorted the Congress for adopting the 15-point programmes meant for the development of the minorities.

In its executive meet, the morcha passed a political resolution, which demanded the UPA government to enact effective laws to control terrorism. As Wakf is the backbone for the social, economic and educational uplift of the minority community, the morcha stated that it is painful that a large number of Wakf properties are under the unlawful occupation of the governments and the land mafias. The morcha demanded that the UPA government should check the transfer of the Wakf properties in the garb of lease, which is in contravention of Wakf Act 1995, which bans the sale/long lease of Wakf properties. This manipulation is done freely in the states ruled by the UPA, alleged the BJP minority morcha in its political resolution.  (FOC)
